Material is very unclear, and his lectures are all over the place. He is a great guy and has a cute dog, but the lectures were so bad that only about 10-15 people showed up after week 4. However, there is only one paper for the whole quarter and it is the whole grade, and I thought I did not do well but ended up getting an A. So overall, he is a chill grader and very willing to help.
I love Professor Anderson so so so much! He has such a kind and gentle soul, you can tell he genuinely cares about the well-being of his students. It was an honor listening to his personal anecdotes of his time on the hill and the time he worked for the CIA. He is an INCREDIBLY intelligent man and his lectures are absolutely fascinating. Definitely one of the best professors in the department. Thank you for all that you do professor!
Professor Anderson is an incredibly intelligent individual who understands the nuances of linguistics and their implication on the development of history and political institutions. Although I will admit that his lectures were less than enthralling, an A is totally manageable as long as you write a clear paper, make your presence known to him, and attend lectures.
I can understand the more negative reviews-- he does ramble sometimes and his tangents aren't always relevant to what you think you need to know. But if you're one of the few students who still goes to lecture, I think you might appreciate his teaching style. Everything he says is to reinforce the importance of discourse and the philosophy behind the class, and he's a really likable and interesting guy. Also an incredibly fair grader on the paper.
163B. Absolutely terrible professor. His lectures consist of rambling nonsense which goes off topic most of the time. The class was 3 essays that doens't seem too bad except that he didn't grade two of them until the end of the class and there is zero feedback.
The final paper was on his book which is actual gibberish. It may as well be written in another language. Unless you plan on going and getting to know the professor on a personal level to get a good grade this class is a waste of time, money and brain power.
Also textbooks for this class cost upwards of 200.00 most of that for the professors own book, are you kidding
