Prof is a dork. He can't design a reasonable class and thinks he's so cool sending out annoyed emails about small things. If you've done CS, this man tries to be strict and polished like Eggert but fails miserably. He's also a logistical mess: he doesn't know how to use Canvas, picked TAs who refuse to respond, doesn't post grades on time, went from 10 assignments to just 4 (out of which 1 was on completion), used Google Forms for everything (?), had a website he barely updated, and hasn't posted grades yet (1 week after the deadline). Bro needs to introspect instead of projecting through his emails because nobody liked this class, despite being an easy A. That should speak volumes, given most people take GEs for As. Rename this class to Clown Culture.

Class is a complete waste of time. Notes and attendance are useless as the material being taught has absolutely nothing to do with the assignments given. Towards the end, I just started showing up for the last 30 minutes when he gave assignments. The assignments have very vague wording and could often times be confusing. The professor made the odd choice to have us do our assignments through google doc (yes, even the midterm & final) which led to grading problems. Wheeler didn't post any grades (for ANYTHING) until after the quarter ended, TA's ignored multiple student's emails and were generally unhelpful. Conclusion: Taking this class felt like a weird fever dream and while it was an easy A, I was left wishing I had taken literally any other class. Also for a design/arts teacher, his slides are the most boring things I've ever seen.

the best way i can put this class is that it was a fake class. i almost never went, the midterm and final each took 30 minutes and were a take-home google form, and we weren't tested on the lectures at all. the assignments really had nothing to do with the class description or lecture content (but they were easy, so that's fine).
also, wheeler has a stick up his 4ss. like during the first lecture he showed us his linkedin profile with his credentials and told us about his experiences with designing for high fashion. he seems like one of those guys who talks endlessly about the fact that he teaches at ucla because he likes the name brand clout, but he's barely a legit professor and isn't an integral part of the staff. he's just a part timer, his class was a mess, and he couldn't even organize his team of TA's or tell them what was going on.
it was a free A. idk what else to say. it was a waste of time otherwise. i not only learned nothing, i possibly learned a negative amount.

I don't feel like I learned enough on the topic of the class; Design Culture. I learned how to cite actual physical sources and online readings relating to culture and art-- that's about it.

Honestly felt like a freebie of a class, nothing was graded seriously, and the assignments felt out of middle school. I only showed up to a few lectures before realizing that my time would be better spent doing homework for a different class. It was nice to get a free A, though.

I did not attend a single lecture after Week 2. You don't need to that's how easy and stupid this class is. Wouldn't be able to tell you a single thing I learned from this class.

This class was super chill and I enjoyed the lectures. There were no tests (everything was assignment-based) and the homeworks were super easy and not related to the lecture content, so going to class felt very optional. I think a lot of students stopped attending because of this, but as someone who isn't in a design or art program I still thought the content was very insightful and useful to me. The class name, "Design Culture," is appropriate: this class provides a very broad overview of the history and topics in design, without diving in too deep. You can ask Wheeler any questions about assignments, grading, or the content after class and he's super helpful.

I do wish the assignments were a little more relevant to our classes instead of just practicing writing Chicago citations, though.

this class was easy mostly because it was so boring and i had no work. the lectures were so unengaging and was just rambles about elon musk and basically stuff he saw on twitter. he tried to talk about the industrial revolution but he was totally unqualified and off base. most kids stopped going after the first three lectures. he gives us google forms to fill out as homework and tests. if you want an easy ge for visual/performing arts do it but at a cost of being bored as heck. wheeler also gets mad easily about random stuff.

This class was a waste of time and I didn't learn anything. The assignments every week were COMPLETELY unrelated to anything we learned (they were literally Google Forms where we had to cite objects or publications). Every. Single. Assignment. The midterm and final essays were 250 word paragraphs, which were very easy. Overall, this class is an extremely easy GE and you don't need to attend lecture. It will be as if this class wasn't even there. Don't take it if you want to learn something.
