The professor's lectures seem very organized. He posts outlines and his powerpoints online. However, this was the most confusing world history class ever. I am used to history books helping you to understand the material, but the textbook he assigned was useless. I don't think i learned a thing about world history in this class. If you could take another class do it. This class was not fun and definitely not worth your time.

von Glahn is a pretty boring lecturer. That's not to say he's bad; he knows his material very well, presents the information in a neatly organized manner, with slides that were available online for pre/review, and teaches a pretty tight curriculum. The lectures, in short, are highly informative. However, especially if you're in an early lecture, they are very very hard to stay awake in. Since he tends to follow his own research rather than the textbooks', this can sometimes make the classes tougher than they should be. Fortunately, the grading in his course was lenient, and all was well. I'd say I stayed awake and paid attention to about 1/4 of the lectures overall, didn't bother to buy the textbook (since he said we wouldn't follow it very closely), and still managed an A-. Not too bad.

Don't take this class in the morning. Isn't too hard but the grading by TA's is either very generous or stingy. I got the stingy grading and lower grade than I deserved. So beware of TA's.

Von Glahn is an allright kind of guy. Of course you have to watch out for your TA because mine was a real nut. I thin that Von Glahn keeps it short and sweet in his lectures but tends to go off topic. Try to go to class because his slides are not the material he wants you to know they are just catalysts for conversation.
