Fall 2025 - This class consists of weekly quizzes, 2 labs (you get to pick out of 5), and an extended paper on one of the labs (4 pages single spaced). All the information you needed is given through lectures and slides. Some of the information can be hard to grasp onto but Prof. Dale was always very eager to help anyone that needed. Prof. Dale was always excited to share the content with us which made the class more enjoyable. I would highly recommend any class that he teaches.

Fall 2025 - Professor Dale is a great choice for communications 115, especially if you’re looking for a class that feels both interesting and manageable. Lectures are clear, organized, and engaging. The workload is very reasonable for a 115 course. Assignments are fair, and expectations are clearly laid out from the start. If you keep up with the material and pay attention in lecture, you’ll be in a good spot. Weekly quizzes and 4 labs total which were super manageable. He also provides helpful guidance on what to focus on, which makes studying much less stressful. Professor Dale is also approachable and genuinely wants students to succeed. He’s open to questions, explains things multiple ways if needed, and creates a low-stress learning environment. Overall, this is a solid class to take if you want to learn useful communication concepts without feeling overwhelmed. I would recommend it for communications majors and non-majors.

Winter 2021 - Professor Dale is one of my favorite professors I've had at UCLA so far. Even though I wasn't extremely interested in the class when registering for it, his passion and enthusiasm when teaching the subject made my learning an enjoyable experience. I loved the way this class was set up. Students have up to two weeks to complete each weekly quiz. Out of the five or so labs that were given, you only have to complete two of them for credit. On top of that, you have a lot of freedom when it comes to what to write about in your labs, which I also really liked. No midterm or final exam. Instead, you write a final paper at the end of the quarter. Also, lectures are asynchronous. I came into the class just aiming to fulfill my degree requirements and then came out of it learning some pretty interesting stuff. Highly recommend taking this class!

Spring 2019 - This class is mislabed, it is actually called: Science of Language. This class is awesome, it consists of weekly quizzes, 2 labs, and a final project. Professor Dale is probably the only good comm professor at UCLA. He is hilarious, kind, very helpful, quick at emails, and always wanting to see his students succeed. This is my third class with him. Take him, you will not regret it.

Winter 2025 - I highly recommend professor Dale. He is very passionate about the class topic and is an overall cool and funny guy. I took this class to fulfill my comm tech core and I’m so glad I did. We had 2 labs we got to choose, 6 question multiple choice weekly quizzes based on what he covered in lecture and one exam that he provided a study guide for. He provides the readings that are pretty do-able. Originally we were supposed to have two exams but he decided that if you felt good about your midterm, you didn’t need to take the final because he will drop the lowest score. Even if you aren’t a comm major, this class was extremely fair in terms of the content and workload.

Winter 2025 - Professor Dale is a super knowledgeable, helpful, and great overall. Definitely recommend this class for cog sci majors as he is a successful cognitive scientist himself and this class aligns with many cog sci principles. This class is constantly updated to be in line with current states of AI, GPT, and other new communication ideas. On top of all this, the class is super manageable and very easy to get an A. One of the best classes I've taken that is interesting and easy
