The professor is very unorganized with his lecture presentations. I wish the administration would have a closer look at the structure of this class because it seems like a waste of time. I take nothing away from each lecture because there is no flow. He just rants and rambles for 110 minutes and you walk out of the room wondering how his lecture had anything to do with what we are studying. Since a large portion of the grade is based on attendance, the students are required to show up. I know that if he did not have that requirement, only 25% of students would show up because his examinations have little to do with his lecture. I have never taken notes and I find myself doodling or surfing the internet during class (in fact, I am in class at this very moment!), yet I have received only A+ grades on his exams. Everything can be found in his textbook (which is incomplete and has a myriad of errors all the way through). We are tested on material that he could have very well invented because his textbook has no citations and is written in very casual rhetoric. Furthermore, he requires that we purchase his online interactive textbook for $50 every quarter, which is unprofessional. On his papers, it seems that he predetermines the spread of grades he wants to distribute before he grades the assignment. He only gave out two or three A grades out of 58 students for the first paper this term. My hypothesis is that he wants to make it look as though the student has improved over time with his instruction. I have received the same grade for papers that I spent a lot of time and effort on as well as the ones I know that I blew off and wrote horribly. This class has been like an episode of The Twilight Zone. I think that something needs to change before next year.

Course taken: AA10

Winter is definitely loud and hyper so he's not like one of those lifeless professors, which makes class exciting. He speaks and spells TREMENDOUSLY fast (makes note-taking relatively difficult b/c he's spitting info at you at lightning speed...).

There is a LOT of time commitment for this class because of the 2 hour lectures and the 4 outside performances (2-5 hours depending on the ones you select). This class was definitely a roller coaster ride for me: it was boring, exciting, frustrating, and interesting... But, honestly, I found myself more frustrated because this class is not as easy as everybody says it is.

I recommend finding a friend to exchange notes/study together, attending Winter's review session before the midterm and final (Super important so go go go! You'll realize that the notes you've been taking in class were, for the most part, useless...), and letting your TA proofread your 400 word mini-papers at their office hours (A good majority of the TAs are super harsh graders! They're looking at grammar, analysis, specific wording... It's pretty ridiculous b/c this class isn't even an English course.)

My favorite part of this class were the extra credit student performances at the end of the quarter. I found myself completely awake in class because of this, haha. I also recommend doing the extra credit performance because you get a grade bump (ie. B+ to A-) and you have the opportunity to conquer stage fright!

The grade breakdown for this course is 25% midterm, 40% discussion (4 mini critiques included in here so get to know your TA b/c they're in charge of 40% your grade), and 35% final. Please take advantage of any extra credit opportunities he throws at you as they serve as a grade boost!

Even though this class is challenging/hard, I still recommend taking it, because I believe it's easier compared to those other courses in the Arts category.

Took AA10 with Winter.

This class was unique.

From the first day when Winter was talking to us about his trip to China while swinging his cane around to taking the final exam projected on the projector at a snail's pace this class never ceased to surprise.

There is one picture assignment along with 4 papers on live events outside of class. Overall this class requires very little besides showing up. The tests are random and hard to study for but if you go to class they aren't that bad. It's not a difficult class, there are chances for extra credit, it's new, and winter and the guests keep it exciting. I'd recommend it.
