Quarter: Winter 2019
Grade: A

I am not an art history major and I wanted to take this class as an upper div elective. Week one she assigned a difficult reading that was hard to understand. It was very discouraging and I was ready to drop the class, but I stayed and I’m glad I did. The readings were manageable and the hardest reading was from week one. She even said herself that it was hard to digest, but she and the TA’s did a good job at explaining it. I found this class very interesting and the workload was not much. I was always able to do the short essays the day before and got A’s on all of them. We only had one test and it wasn’t very difficult. Her pop quiz’s are extremely easy. I would take her again.

Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: A

It was my first time taking a Art History class, to preface I'm a psychology major and 95% of the class were art history majors except for this other guy and I. Not gonna lie, this was a tough class because there were quite a lot of readings and most of them can be a little confusing and requires you to go through it more than once. There were 4 short papers throughout the quarter submitted electronically to the TA, one midterm and one final which included some multiple choice questions and 2-3 open response essay questions.

Professor Mathur is very informational and if you listen and take good notes (although I was blanking out quite a lot, I still managed to catch chunks here and there), you should be able to do your assignments and tests no problem. Lectures aren't podcasted for this class.

Go for discussion section!!! The discussion section in this class was mainly how I studied for the midterms and finals because we would split up and go through all the potential topics and my TA, Lidia was amazing and very encouraging. After the midterm, I was freaking out and considered changing my grading to P/NP because I wasn't sure where I stood in the class but she told me to keep it at LG because I was improving from my first assignment.

Not sure if I would take an Art History class again simply because it wasn't too too interesting to me but it isn't a bad class!

This is definitely one of the best classes I've taken at UCLA. Professor Mathur is very, very passionate about the subject and makes the class very engaging. This is also a class that is not necessarily an easy A, as you DEFINITELY need to pay close attention to the readings, as you will be tested on them in pop quizzes, the response papers, the midterm (ESPECIALLY for the multiple choice section), and the final. However, the I think that the workload is pretty reasonable and all of the readings are accessible on CCLE, which is very convenient. My only complaint about the readings is that the pictures are in black and white most of the time, so if you want to look at the images you are going to have to google them yourself. Overall, I think that this class was very enjoyable and I recommend it 100%.

I love professor Mathur!! Best professor I have taken and she truly cares for the content she teaches as well as her students. I learned so much from her and the content in the class was amazing. I got a solid in her class and we had to do a few response questions for her class, 2 quizzes, in class midterm, and take home final. But this class is quite interesting and the teacher is so lovable and sweet! Loved this class
