Fall 2025 - I wouldn't say 111 is an easy class, but it's manageable if you don't fall behind on watching lectures (going to lecture in-person is a great way to stay on top of things). Lectures can be dry, but Sam Kumar knows what he's talking about and was always happy to answer questions. His slides were well-organized, and his live demos went smoothly. Overall it was a solid class. Homework: There were six vitamins, two of which (implementing parts of a kernel) were done in groups of 3-4. Having a good group definitely helped. Grading: 45% vitamins (homework), 20% midterm, 30% final, 5% participation. The raw cutoff score for an A was 88%. Textbook: optional. Recommended reading: Operating Systems: Three Easy Pieces by Remzi H. Arpaci-Dusseau and Andrea C. Arpaci-Dusseau, Operating Systems: Principles and Practice by Thomas Anderson and Michael Dahlin (Second edition).
