Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: B+
March 13, 2020

In short, his lectures are engaging and insightful but the amount of reading I had to do for a B+ was far more than I've had to do for a class at UCLA so far. Great person and was incredibly helpful in office hours, but definitely not an easy grader or an easy professor.

Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: A

Dr. Keeley is my favorite history professor at UCLA. He was an engaging lecturer and highly receptive and available to students. This course had only one textbook, and the rest of the readings were free PDFs. Midterm and final were essay exams. There was a relatively short research paper we were tasked to write about practically any topic in 19th century German history of interest to us. Dr. Keeley does not teach generalized history; he is highly specialized, and encourages students to do the same in their papers. I found this very refreshing, and it was far more rewarding to research a personally interesting topic as opposed to writing a super general paper.
