Disability Studies 101W with Professor Wolf was a very interesting class. You learn to observe disability from an entirely new perspective. Professor Wolf herself is a passionate lecturer, always prepared to answer our questions and listen to what the class has the say. I wanted to hear more from the professor, but most of the lectures/presentations were given by guest speakers (who were also really awesome!). Our grade is solely based on the TA who we got when enrolling in class. The class consists of reading summaries, participation, attendance, a short paper, and one long 10-paged final paper. Compared to other writing 2 classes, this class does not have much reading and writing to fulfill. However, DS101W was not a breeze. I still needed to put in my time and effort, ask my TA questions, and do thorough research for my final paper. However, I learned a lot from this class and I really enjoyed attending lectures. The readings were also very insightful, and I loved listening to what my other classmates had to say about the topic we learned during discussion. Overall, I would totally recommend this class for the curious students out there who also needs to fulfill there Writing 2 requirement. Not only did I complete my writing 2 requirement, I also filled my brain with new knowledge and a new perspective to how I approach disability issues!!

Professor Wolf puts together a fantastic line up of speakers for each class period. Every one of them will change what you think you know about disability. I highly recommend this class as a writing II if you are lucky enough to get it. The work load is moderate and there are only two papers, one 4-5 paper and one 10 page. The 10 page however is broken down into sections (proposal, narrative outline, rough draft, and final draft) so it isn't that daunting. Participation is mandatory for both lecture and discussion, but if you have an interest in the subject, you will look forward to attending.

This class is really interesting and offers a new perspective about viewing disability. I LOVE that there is only one final paper in this class (at least 10 pages) and that they break it down to paper proposal, narrative outline, and rough draft. That way, you are forced to work on your paper bit by bit and can't write your final paper last minute (I mean you can but at least you'd have something to work with). It is VERY easy to get an A in this class but if you don't take it seriously and don't attend lecture/section then you'd probably end up with a B because participation counts a lot in this class. I'm a shy individual and didn't speak a single word but I got full participation points just by attending class/section.
Also, great thing about this class is that you can get up to 5 points extra credit and it's generous enough to bring your grade up by 3%.
My TA, Everest M, is a really good TA. He's helpful, funny, and considerate. He isn't strict about deadlines so if you turn in a weekly summary late by a day, he'll most likely accept it. Just don't start turning in things late every time. I highly recommend him if you're looking for a good TA. He also ends discussion early.
Take this if you need a writing intensive class!!! 10/10

The readings are amazing. The professor is also quirky and unique. She really pushed for education based on an individual's needs, and that was something that stuck with me far past taking the class.

Review for TA:
Everest embodies many traits of an excellent educator. He is focused on our wellbeing and our specific needs as individual students. I really appreciate his ability to adapt to our needs and am grateful I had him as a TA.

He is a (super) patient and well-grounded person. I can see that he effectively helps calm down students about their worries. He also creates an open, laidback classroom that still maintains a high academic standard - a balance that takes a lot of teaching talent to maintain.

The class was very interesting and very eye-opening. I thought the concepts were novel but very applicable.
There is a total of 5 papers but first one is a reflection and the next 4 are drafts of your final paper due finals week - very doable, which is probs why everyone says this class is "easy"
There are also weekly readings which are manageable but I have to say that the concepts were a little difficult in the beginning so its not as "easy" as everyone says it is. Im a science major and history minor so I thought I've done a lot of reading but I still struggled a little in the beginning. But, after a while, you get use to the general frameworks and overarching ideas etc.

DO NOT TAKE WITH PROF. WOLF.

She is a horrible person. I asked for accommodations for my own disability, and she responded that "my best ability could not be more than a C" and was unwilling to make accommodations. For a disability class! In grading my work, she gave me the exact same, low grade for all 5 of my written assignments, which is highly unlikely that they all warranted the exact same score. Her grading was fully biased, and she was extremely rude and unprofessional when I approached her about this all. The class itself was not hard, but I 100% recommend taking it with a different professor. In fact, I recommend not taking any classes with Professor Wolf at all.
