He teaches 1st module of Neuro101A on electrophysiology. He explains everything very clearly and his exam questions are on material that was well explained during lectures. He also does office hours as lectures. Overall, great experience.

Definitely one of the best professors at UCLA. The material was difficult, but he taught it so well that it seemed very easy. I barely had to study for his test since I completely understood all the material from lecture already.

He's infamous for his "mental health breaks" that take up 30-45 minutes of the 2 hour class time - granted, his lectures were the most unendurable of any class I have taken at UCLA... and I'm a fourth year. You feel cheated of time due this incredible waste of valuable class time. (We're not kindergarteners, and we don't need naptime every 20 minutes...) Also, he spent the first three classes of the 7 lectures for his module going over stuff that should be review for everyone, and could easily be put into the entire first lecture (sans breaks). This is supposed to be an upper division class, so I would assume that everyone knows what V=IR is by this point. The material presented in class is very easy, but the concepts on the exam are at a little higher level, which isn't really an issue. Everything he will ever say is in the Course Reader you buy making it worthwhile to just skip class and read this if you don't want to endure his lectures and can study well on your own. (You'll be saving yourself time and confusion this way.) His style of presenting each idea 10 different ways ends up confusing you rather than clarifying anything because one of the things he says is bound to be wrong or misleading, leaving you more confused than before you even heard anything on the topic. To make it worse, discussions are an hour and a half and are mandatory, and all discussions are on Fridays. This might have been okay but I had the worst TA ever who thought that agreeing with everyone was a good idea, even when everyone said stuff that was completely contradictory of each other. Case in point, Chandler's lectures are extremely boring and confusing, which is impressive considering how simple the few concepts he teaches are.

Well if you are realllllyyyyyyyyyy smart you will find Dr. Chandler a good professor. If you struggle at all with the material you will find yourself hating his guts as he has no patience or kindness for students who do not get it. I havent even gotten my exam back and so you know I am posting this without bias about his grading. He seems really nice in class. It is a FACADE!!!!!!!! He has made many people feel stupid including me and I have really done my part. The TAs are your friend, get with them and they will help you through this class. I will NEVER take this prof again. He is cocky and thinks he is better than. I have never had a worse professors and I am usually good with getting on the teachers good side. but this guy was completely unapproachable. He got mad at me for not understanding what he was talking about. He swears that he is really concerned, but his actions speak way louder than words. If you are really smart and LOVE this stuff you'll be fine. If you struggle or just "like" the material you will be soooooo glad when that test is over! I never have to see chandler again and I AM ENTIRELY GRATEFUL FOR THAT!!!!

Took NS M101A with Chandler, Bruinwalk is stupid so I had to put it in as physci m180. Anyway, Chandler is my favorite professor at UCLA so far. Anyone who says he was a bad lecturer is just bitter they didn't do well on his test. He is the only neuro professor so far that taught us concepts instead of just having us memorize slide after slide after slide. He made sure we didn't get bored in lecture by showing us photography and/or jokes every half hour. I thought these "mental health breaks" were really effective and wish more professors caught on. The material is really interesting and Chandler presents it well. You probably won't have a choice if you're taking m101A but you shouldn't be disappointed with professor Chandler. You will, however, be disappointed when his module ends and suddenly neuroscience isn't interesting anymore.
