Prof Lippit is one of the greatest profs Ive had at UCLA. The cinema class was also very interesting. He covers a wide array of topics and opens you up to a new way of viewing films. His lectures are full of information. His exams are very fair and he prepares his students very well for them. He is always willing to help his students and always has his door open to you. Not only is he a great prof, but he is a great person. Everyone should take this class.

Best Professor here at UCLA, bar none. I took a cinema class and a senior thesis with him, and I couldn't agree more with the guy who mentioned down-to-earth brilliance below. That is exactly what professor Lippit is all about. He treats his class like they are acadmic equals, not the holy-than-thou attitude most profs I've had here seem to exude. He is the only professor I've ever seen who is genuinely interested in what you have to say. The works we would watch or read were always interesting, in fact it sparked an interest in Japanese films with me, and if you're in a big lecture with him, sit as close as you can, because he may not have the most basso voice, but you don't wanna miss what he is saying. He has a wealth of knowledge about everything he talks about, but puts it forth in a humble way. If you're lucky enough to be in a small seminar with him, do the readings, you'll find being a part of his literary discussions extremely rewarding. I don't know what else to say beside his classes were the only two in my entire career here that I looked forward to going to. A great man, deserves to be #1.
