First upper div Polysci course iv taken. Honestly wasn't bad at all. Class consists a midterm a final and 4 quizzes. There is weekly reading but you can get by without doing them. He marks specific reading that the quizzes are going to be based on- which is super helpful. The quizzes are usually 5-9 questions online. So workload is pretty light. The midterm seems like its heavy- he gives study guide and there are alot of terms but you can definitely find them in your notes. You kinda have to go to class just because he doesn't post slides. He's actually a really good professor, he's very nice and understanding and lenient as well too. Hes not a hard ass at all, he really tries to give you as much information as he can for the midterm. I would definitely take this professor again. Combination of easy workload and great professor, definitely take again. Only problem I have is that im not sure if its the material or him, but the class gets a little boring and you start to doze off. but still 9/10 would recommend.
Berenji was a gem. I rarely write reviews for professors, but I had to make an exception for him. Great class, informative lectures, and engaging material. 10/10 recommend if you're into international relations. Also, go to his office hours and ask questions if needed; this helps you understand the material better and gives him a chance to know you.
Professor Berenji is a true gem in teaching form. Not only is he incredibly intelligent, charismatic when he lectures, and helpful, but he is also super caring and reasonable as a professor. His tests were very straightforward and he is very friendly and helpful during office hours and in class. Getting an A in the class is super manageable. I honestly didn't study for the midterm and got a high C but aced the final. Definitely planning on taking him as much as I can in the next two years. Highly recommend his classes!
This class was great! Definitely a lot of stuff to memorize/understand, but Prof. Berenji is super accessible and emphasizes important points, so it's really all on you if you don't know everything.
The final was a bit rough, mainly because it included a final cumulative exam as well as a take-home essay you had to write in 24 hours. That being said, I liked having the grade % split up a bit, and the essay topic was not hard.
Prof. Berenji is obviously a passionate professor and really cares about his students. I also came out of the class feeling like I actually learned something. I see crossover in a lot of classes I am taking now, which is awesome, and I have brought stuff I learned from this class into conversations with friends and family!
Selling books for this class! Text **********
This class is super straightforward and Professor Berenji is great! Lectures are engaging and he makes the concepts and theories very simple to understand. Readings are also not difficult to understand and connect perfectly with lecture. Class is structured like the rest of his courses- 4 simple reading quizzes, midterm, and final. Definitely learned a lot and would recommend this class
Go to class, take notes from his slides (he doesn't post his slides...usually), study for the exam using the study guides he provides, and you're good! I learned a lot from him. Class can get a little boring since he repeats concepts a lot but the concepts are interesting, he is very passionate about them (especially nuclear weapons), and it just means less stuff to study later. You need to go to class unfortunately to get the notes, but you only need to read the readings that you will be quizzed on (he tells you which ones will be on the quiz). Overall, he was a very friendly, relatable, and intelligent professor and I would take him again. Be aware that the final is like 50% of your grade though so don't fail that.
I'm selling the Course Reader for this class for cheap. Text me! **********
Berenji is a really kind professor. He actually cancelled lecture during the Getty fire due to health concerns and kept us updated. The readings weren’t too important. You’ll be fine if you complete the study guide and do all the quizzes.
Let me start this review off by saying that Berenji is an amazing lecturer and professor. He really cares about his students and is very clearly passionate about what he teaches. He clearly knows what he's talking about and is very enthusiastic about all that he teaches. But I will say this class is difficult. This was by far the most difficult political science course I've taken at UCLA, and needless to say I was extremely stressed the entire quarter. Even with spending a whole week studying for this class and putting in a lot of time into it I still could barely get a B. The exam essays are harshly graded, and you have to explain each subject you bring up in detail within the time constraints or else you won't get a good grade. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this class if you're looking for something that isn't very difficult or stressful. If you plan on taking Berenji, plan on being overwhelmed the majority of the quarter. Good Luck.
