I waited a year and half to take this class with Professor Darabi but I can't say how lucky I was to have Professor Moloudi for my last quarter at UCLA. He's the best lecturer in ECE department and even best teacher I ever had in my entire life. He started the course by going deep into conceptual and background of diode and transistors and switched to analyzing them in circuits in a way that its like drinking water with no issues. Every chapter he started, he went from doing baby steps to the most simplest and elegant possible way of solving circuits. Anyone who doubts taking his classes is the dumbest student in ECE department. I just wished I took more classes with Professor Moloudi while I was sat UCLA.

Note: Taken online (Covid).

As a professor Moloudi is one of the better ones. Both in-person and online lectures are relatively engaging. He's very thorough and generally is pretty clear with explanations. Moloudi is very blunt, but not rude like Abidi can be.

I had him in-person for 110H in winter, he does not post slides so it's very important to go to the lecture (which sucks since normally they are at 8AM).

Exams are tough but fair.

Moloudi is just a really fantastic lecturer. There are a lot of times when he simply says "put down your pencils and actually listen to me" and he communicates complicated concepts very well. Homeworks and tests are tough but fair, and I came out of this class very satisfied with what I learned. Pace of the class is also very good.

Moloudi is a very direct and no-nonsense lecturer. He expects everyone to show up to lecture and take detailed notes even during online learning, not guaranteeing that all the lectures would be recorded (though in our case all of them ended up being recorded). He writes things out on a tablet/whiteboard and doesn't use slides. His examples and explanations are very clear however and you can learn almost everything you need by paying good attention in lecture.

Homework assignments were taken out of one of the textbooks (but still relevant to the lecture material) and could end up being pretty long, remember to start them in advance. Grading on the assignments was fairly lenient and it's not hard to get good marks.

Moloudi likes to write his tests out on a single sheet of paper (or a single page that he screen-shared with Zoom in our case), so the raw problem count isn't that high, but you need to be able to quickly recognize how to solve the problems, and then solve them with little delay. There's not much computation required and on the final no calculator was needed. Midterm had a series of true/false theory questions, final had no theory questions. The tests are fair in terms of difficulty provided that you really understand the problem solving processes from the homework, when reviewing you should ensure that you can solve the problems on your own without peeking at the solutions. Partial credit is fairly generous so write something for every problem.

The syllabus says that he doesn't curve the class, so I wouldn't count on a curve being able to save you from poor test percentages, but I found the overall difficulty to be fair and it's possible to bounce back from an eh score on the midterm.

Professor Shervin explains the material very clearly than any resources so going to the class is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT !! Do the home and practice them before the test especially before the mid term because the mid term questions are mostly related to the homework still do not get lost on the concepts. The final is hard but still doable if you get enough practice on the homework. I don't think professor Shervin curves the grades so if you did bad on the mid term, you have to be ready to scarify your self for the final.

Actually I took his EE 110. He is by far the best lecturer in EE department.

He writes everything on board and doesn't post lecture notes. But that's not a problem if you attend his lecture. His lectures are so clear and effective. He can cover up to twice the stuff that any other professor could cover in one lecture, which makes students really concentrate (there's no time for cell phone). The attendency was around 90% for every lecture, which is very impressive for an 8am class. He really cares about students and can remember most of their names. Also he doesn't seem to be so sarcastic now.

His hws and test are time-consuming and not easy, but definetly doable. The tests are homework typed questions and are really straightforward, not tricky. If you make sure you understand homework solutions and go over the homework , you should be fine. Doing extra exercises from the textbook before the test is helpful.

As for his grading, it sounded scary when he said he wouldn't curve. But I think either he curved in the end or I did extremely good on the final (which seems unlikely because I know for sure I got 2 of the questions wrong). The median for the midterm was 55 and I got 70, according to him, I would ended up with a C range. But since I got A-, and I know friends who did worse than me also got A range, I think his grading is not that horrible.

Anyway take him if you can. His lectures are extremely clear and helpful and his grading is not that bad (I would say normal).

I took EE110 with Moloudi in Winter 2017.

Moloudi was probably the best EE professor I ever had so far, together with Lorenzelli's EE102 class.

The cons to taking him were the 8AM lectures, and the fact he doesn't give many A's (he doesn't curve). Now keep in mind I don't know anyone else's grades, but he said that he wouldn' t give anyone below 80% an A. I did OK in the class considering I bombed the midterm. Also note that he very rarely post his lecture notes, unless they're math-based equational notes. The TA's didn't post notes until later in the quarter, so try and find a friend.

Now for the pros. If you go to lecture, chances are you will understand the material fairly well, since Moloudi is such an excellent lecturer and fails to leave out even the most miniscule of details. This could actually be a bit of a bad thing since everyone in the class felt they were on a level playing field in terms of understanding the material. The homework, which isn't too tricky minus one BS problem on the second homework, is excellent preparation for the exams, which are tricky but not too hard if you understood the homework.
