Worst professor at UCLA I have ever had. Take my word. Don't take his class. Don't take his class. Don't take his class. Unless you want to try your chance since there is always 20% students who will get an A. The grading is very arbitrary so roll your dice. I had a 4.0 GPA and this class I only got a B and there is no way to dispute the grade. Even though what he says doesn't make sense at all and he is not even able to persuade himself.

Well I guess this grade is what I need to pay off for not listening to the advice on Bruin Walk. Audre Cek is the worst TA you will meet at UCLA. The professor is not respectful to you at all. He smiles when he talks but everytime you are saying something to him, he would appear very impatient. If you are using Bruinwalk for a reason, then please don't take this professor's class.

This class was horrible. The class doesn't have direction. You essentially get told to study the textbook for the quizzes which is BS since he doesn't even test you on the textbook. The class material is very boring and he needs to get better at communicating . You would think that he would be good at communicating given that this is a marketing class. He uses outdated examples to teach marketing (pre-1990).

I thought I would learn more about online marketing (i.e. google marketing and whatnot). But, I didn't get to do that. He also responds pretty poorly to students when they add to the class discussions if he doesn't like what you said. And he keeps telling people to participate. Also, you have no direction in regard to your grade.

The TA gives you a grade based on how they're feeling and you can't argue it. Absolutely the worst class I took at UCLA and in the UME. Take my advice and please do not take him.

Overall excellent class. Really enjoyed professor Shi's lectures, he's super dynamic and entertaining. Also love the organization and structure of the class. I learned a lot in the class and was exposed to a world I had never been in before. The case studies were interesting and fun to complete. They really helped me apply to frameworks I learned in this class. One thing I would improve about the class is that the textbook shouldn't be required. It's a lot of fluff and I think the course reader and lecture slides were sufficient enough.

One of the best classes I've taken at UCLA! Instead of many of the other MGMT 160 series classes, Professor Zhang didn't focus on rote memorization of material but rather on problem-solving and practical application for the exams. We had 3 quizzes divided throughout the quarter (no midterm and final) and I was well prepared just by skimming through my notes before the quiz and paying attention during lecture. We also had 3 case write-ups which weren't too difficult, and were a fun and interesting way to apply the frameworks we learned. He didn't allow laptops during class which was sometimes hard because the class is 3 hours long, but I think the material is interesting and relevant enough to keep your attention. There is also a group project where you work on a marketing strategy proposal for an existing company which consists of a brief paper (10 pages) and give a presentation to the class. Definitely not as work-heavy as some of the projects in the other MGMT 160 series classes. Highly recommend!

Look, this is definitely a tough class. Professor Zhang is pretty inflexible in his grading style and clarifications. He teaches the class much more like a grad school class rather than an undergrad class. I did enjoy it overall, he is obviously super knowledgable and passionate about marketing, but this class was not easy. I think that this wasn't helped by the fact that I was put into a group with one member who did absolutely no work at all and was entirely unhelpful, but apparently this was an atypical experience (our TA said randomized groups typically worked well). I thought the group project itself was interesting and allowed us to apply our understanding of the class in addition to our own creativity, which was great. If you're *really* interested in marketing I would consider taking this class, but just keep in mind that it is NOT a breeze and you will need to put in a decent amount of time and effort to receive a good grade.

Tips:
- participate as much as you can (without being annoying) because Professor Zhang considers participation in the final grade
- start working on the final paper/presentation well before the end of the quarter (I would suggest sometime between weeks 4-6 to start throwing ideas around) especially if you have a tendency to be stressed or are taking a loaded schedule
- talk to your TA! My TA rocked for MGMT 165 (bless Kat, you're the best), she was super understanding and helpful throughout the class and group project

GOOD LUCK!

Shi Zhang is a professor who is very set in his ways of teaching and will not tolerate individual thinking and any questioning of his methods. He's a nice guy but his lectures are very slow and unengaging. He'll ask an open ended question and expect a specific answer, shooting everyone else who answers down in the process. His grading is extremely arbitrary and he'll take points off for the most particular things that no one would think to include. He also offers no transparency on your final grade until it's been inputted into the gradebook after finals which was very annoying because I had no idea how I was doing until final grades were posted. Overall this class was pretty frustrating and I don't recommend it.

This class is decently easy but so boring. I also feel like i could have learned everything from this class in about 3 hours total. The 3 hour long class 1x per week is also so long and boring. The professor is often unclear on expectations, but then expects super specific results, which makes it hard to do assignments. Overall, didn't feel like i got much out of the class. Plus, it bothered me when the instructors said that the class might be more challenging than I'm used to because it is an anderson class, when it reality, everyone was having issues because of how unclear the instructions for assignments are. like bro my physics classes were way harder than this its not the class its you. The ta kat is super nice though.
