I agree with the previous reviewer that her final was way way too difficult. We were never taught problems of such difficulty, and the practice final is in no way similar to the actual test. If you only do the practice final, then rest assured you will get a C-/D+. Oh one more thing, she no longer allows a cheat sheet. One reviewer mentioned her final was impossible when cheat sheet was still allowed. Well, if only you can imagine those of us having to take it without a cheat sheet. I regret taking her class, and will probably have to retake this class. Avoid at all costs!!!!! You've been warned.

She just copies her notes on the board during lecture. Can't explain anything and doesn't understand students' questions. Lectures are very straight forward with little application and then the final was really difficult, and it required greater knowledge of concepts and math functions than was ever taught in class. Really frustrating experience, would not recommend.

I agree with the two previous reviews. She never went over those functions and we didn't have any extra problems with that difficulty level. Her midterm was moderate though, but don't be fooled by it and don't believe her that 1/3 of the hw will be on the final. It was the most difficult final I have never done in my life. I was expecting a B since I heard that she's difficult. I didn't have a choice because the another lecture was full. After the final, I am not even sure if I can pass with a C. Like other reviewers have said, avoid at all cost!

i do not recommend taking sheng. her lectures are very dry; she copies directly from her online notes onto the board. however, i would recommend going to class rather than just following the online notes because she gives example problems in class that are often not included in the online notes. she assigns weekly homework assignments which are based off the lectures (kind of), and you need the textbook for those. that being said, the example problems from lecture and homework assignments are not at all indicative of the difficulty of her exams. i got a 28/30 on her midterm exam after going over the practice midterms she posted multiple times. So, i studied for the final the same way. i went over her previous final exams that she posted a multitude of times. she cut the final time to two hours and we were not allowed a cheat sheet. in the exam, i was extremely pressed for time to the point that when there were 5 minutes left, i just had to randomly guess on like 7 problems that i had skipped. although i felt very prepared going into the final exam, i would guess that i probably guessed on half of the questions.

when the midterm scores came out i was less stressed about the class because i felt confident that i could do well and get an A, however after that final i will be lucky to get a C. i don't know why it takes her so long to post exam grades considering all the exams are taken on scantrons. she still hasn't posted the final grades, and we took the exam on sunday preceding finals week.

Do not take this class. While Professor Sheng is a knowledgeable woman, she is quite poor at conveying any of that knowledge in a useful way for the exams. The midterm for this class was fairly easy, with an average in the 80s while I earned a 90%. The final, however, was honestly the hardest test that I've ever taken. I got a 46% on it and the average was a 60, and because the class is graded on a curve relative to peers, I got a C+ in the class. Her lectures are incoherent, with her lack of charisma and thick accent making her very difficult to understand. If you can avoid her, I strongly recommend it.

Sheng is decent. The material after the midterm becomes a little tricky. The final is hard.

This class wasn't too difficult if you've taken any form of stats before. Only a few of the concepts were new to me since I've taken AP Stats. The lectures are honestly really confusing, and watching her explain concepts that I already knew had me more confused after lecture. I did keep watching lectures just to see her examples, but I'd solve them on my own for practice instead of watching her do it. If her lectures weren't recorded I probably wouldn't bother watching them since they need to be sped up/skipped through to be worth it. The homework is graded easily and the exams are pretty fair.

After seeing all her previous reviews I decided to stand out and make a comment.
I think she deserves better scores than it shows, I would say she is at least an average or above-average professor. Yes, she has an accent, but she is very helpful and caring. She always answer students questions with patience.
Her midterm is very easy, and her final is kind of tough, but doable. My recommendation is to make sure to complete all her previous final/midterm exams and study at the homework for sure. Lots of questions on the exam are taken directly from the homwork/previous exams. Getting familiar with those exams and homeworks is the key to success in this class.
I would recommend taking her class.

Having prior stats knowledge from AP Stats or Stats 10 definitely will help you out in this class. Her lectures are helpful if you have no stats knowledge, otherwise, I'd recommend saving time by taking notes directly from the lecture PDFs that she posts. The midterm is relatively easy, but for this quarter it was open-notes and online. Definitely study for it still by going through the past year's midterms and reviewing homework. The material after the midterm gets extremely difficult as there is some integral work and calculus involved. The final is extremely hard and is often the reason why she curves the class. I recommend extensively studying the finals from past years, even though she says it will be like the homework. It was a time crunch and the first in-person exam for many people which will likely cause the average to be super low. She takes quite literally forever to enter the final grade. We had the scantron exam literally the first Saturday of Finals Week and it is currently the last day grades are due but she has yet to upload them. This is causing many that are enrolled in Econ 103L to be super stressed as it is a pre-req. Overall, the class is very do-able and her notes are somewhat helpful but I am sure there are better teachers out there.

I took this class my first quarter as a transfer student. In the beginning, the class seemed really doable. She spent the first 6 weeks in the easier concepts (which the other professor covered in less than 3 weeks) giving the students some false confidence of what to expect. After our midterm, she was teaching about one to two sections per lecture (compared to the beginning she would take two class lecture to cover one section). We had to skip certain concepts (MLE) which we will need to know for Econ 103 as we ran out of time. It was extremely difficult to master these concepts because it was super rushed. Moreover, it was difficult to understand her lectures and she had a hard time understanding our questions during class. She had a hard time explaining concepts. She is very nice but unfortunately I would not recommend her because her exams were very difficult and I learned more from my reading than her lectures. Homework was very easy and not an indicator of what to expect. She said that about 1/3 of all questions would come from the homework which was untrue. Moreover, all of her exams were MC so there is no room for partial credit. What is worse is that she couldn't even explain some of the questions from her own midterm. How did she expect us to solve these problems when she couldn't do them herself? The few people who I know did well in this class were people who knew that she was going to rush the second part of class and who were well ahead than the class' pace and also did really well in the first midterm(the easier concepts). For the final, the passing grade was a failing grade so that gives you an indicator of how prepared we were for her impossible questions. Be warned! Just take Rojas, they went at a better pace, covered and learned more, and the exams were super doable!
