Took this class as a GE, but was pleasantly surprised at how enjoyable it was! Professor Wang really cares about student learning and the class is very straightforward in terms of assignments and getting a good grade. There are readings assigned each week and short, 5 question quizzes on the readings at the beginning of each lecture but they are very manageable. There is also a project at the end of the quarter that makes up most of your grade, and it can be about whatever you found most interesting in the class! I'd definitely take this class again.
This is my favorite professor out of all the classes I have taken at UCLA. Professor Wang is very interesting, and he presents Korean history in a very vivid way. Unlike other professors, he does not deduct points for the comments or opinions you include in your assignments, because he believes that everyone has different perspectives. As long as you express your own views and ideas, your assignments will usually receive full marks.
He is an excellent professor. I had never taken a Korean history course before, but this class sparked my interest in Korean history. In short, I will definitely take his class again if I have the chance before I graduate.
Professor Wang is an amazing professor who truly makes an effort every day. He is super approachable and encourages questions on any topic within the course. I knew nothing about Korean history before this class, but I'm so interested in it now.
