I took Psych 115, not LS1 (they didn't have 115 as an option in the scroll down menu) This is not the easiest class, but the material is fascinating. You can do well if you take his advice: skim the lecture notes/book beforehand, go to every lecture, review the book in more detail after. It's EXTREMELY DOABLE as long as you don't get behind! I got a B in this class as opposed to an A because I didn't take his study advice! He's a great professor, and the only one I've known so far who tried to learn the names of the people who sat in the front. The people who complain about not doing well in this class likely did not study hard enough. Like I said, it's not the easiest class, but a little hard work and you'll do well!

FAN FREAKING TASTIC PROFESSOR!!! I took LS2 with Schein and he is seriously one of the most concerned professors at UCLA. I think that's why he makes his tests super easy. He truly wants you to learn the concepts and trust me by the end of the course you could practically be a doctor by how much you learn. Schein is so great and if you get the chance to take a class with I'm definitely don't pass up the opportunity...not just because the exams are non cumulative multiple choice which are super easy but because he's seriously such a good professor!

Honors class LS 89 I took this simultaneously with LS3. As my first honors class, I have to say I’m impressed with it. We had to go to at least ten seminars and write one paragraph summaries. These turned into a page for me often because I was so interested in the seminar topic that I couldn’t stop talking about it. You have to present a summary of a seminar you went to at least once all quarter to the class- usually about 30 people since you only have to go like 5 times out of 10 weeks. Some people are stage shy but Schein will help you work it out and he’s cute and helpful about it. The class is supportive too, no reason to be shy! The seminars are where researchers of UCLA and its extensions present their cutting edge research. Usually these are hella detailed like down to what kind of shape a protein needs on its surface to be targeted to inhibit some kind of cellular functions, and what kind of genetic sequence will make the shape. Some seminars are confusing because theyre so detailed and the presenters often use acronyms and nicknames, which confuses beginners. Other seminars talk about disease and environmental effects- those are easy to follow. Most seminars are only an hour …and they offer snacks!!! No reason NOT to take LS89- it’s super easy, there’s food, the seminars are fun and interesting, they expand on concepts from LS3 so it’s cool, you get to know Schein better so he’s not just another professor, and it’s honors!! Take it if you can, highly recommend!

As I said in my review below. I took Schein for LS 2. In conjunction, I took LS 89. It's the best honors course I've ever taken. It's easy & interesting. If you just do a lecture every week (you need to do 10 total so you can double up on a week or two when you don't want to do seminars during midterms). Do not save the lectures up for the end of the quarter. My friend did & it was miserable for her. Make sure you keep track of how many discussions you go to (you only need to go to 5). This class is super easy. You don't even need ot understand the seminar. He says, "you can tell me about the coffee they served. Just prove you went" when he describes what he wants in the summaries.
