Bargheer is a pretty chill professor. His midterm exam is pretty easy if you have done the readings and take notes on the main concepts of each reading. He also summarizes the main points of the readings in his lecture. His lecture can get a little stale at times, but since it was a morning class, it’s hard to get everyone’s attention. He does have pop quizzes, so try not to skip his lectures. His pop quizzes were generally based on the lecture slides, so it’s a good idea to review his slides before every lecture. The readings themselves are pretty convoluted and challenging to comprehend, but I had a good TA (I forgot his name) that helped me through the main points. All in all, you should take bargheer for soc 101. Solid professor overall!

A take-home exam, in-class midterm, and three quizzes.
Professor Bargheer often orchestrates the historical event in chronological order, and concord with the theorist.
not hard at all if you read.

I enjoyed this class. Although the readings and material can be dense, the class is never too difficult as long as you do it. Bargheer understands his material well and is able to relay it well in lecture.

Shoutout to my TA Wisam, if it were not for him, I probably would not have gotten the grade I received. He broke down the material extremely well and went above and beyond for his students. He held review sessions for the midterm AND final. Bless his soul.

Now for the teacher. Professor Bargheer has a nasally voice and has the most monotone voice ever. That being said, you may need coffee to stay awake. He uses powerpoint slides and posts them right after lecture, so you're kind of forced to go to lecture. I would highly recommend going to lecture because his slides don't really have the important info, he says the important things in class. So for sure attend lecture.

There was 1 in-class midterm, that was not difficult thanks to my TA. You just need to go over the MAIN topics in the readings as you will be analyzing quotes. The final was take-home essays and they were somewhat hard to write because you needed to be very concise in what you wrote.

I would take this class again with this professor because for the most part, he was very chill with the students and did not make sociology 101 be as scary or complex as other professors have. If you can chose Wisam as your TA, DO IT!

Prof Bargheer is not incredibly engaging, but I really appreciated his straightforward lectures. He is very clear about his expectations and is not trying to "trick" students. The TAs were both great; the TA I did not have held review sessions before exams that were very helpful and open to all students. Prof Bargheer was very kind and accessible in office hours. Reading is quite dense but the TAs do their best to break it all down. Overall, I feel very prepared to do well in my other Soc courses with a strong background in Marx, Durkheim, and Weber.

3 quizzes, two of them completely on quotes from the slides. Memorize them and you’ll be good. One of them multiple choice on over all ideas and concepts. In class midterm, gives quotes and you choose 2 to write an essay on. Final is a take home and the same way. Very boring lecture, not engaging, ridiculous amount of dense reading, T.A. Taught better than teacher. Insanely curved everyone’s grades. If you failed, he curved it so you got a C. I guess thats how bad people did? I have no idea, I would not take him again. He’s nice though.

His lectures are boring. Quizzes are doable since if you do the readings. Midterm is in class. Final is take home. I didn't go to in depth with readings. I focused more on the sociological concept each author argues. I had trouble understanding the reading, but the TA helped me out. An A is very attainable in this class. Highly recommend if you need to take.

Bargheer was a great lecturer and thoroughly covers all the material that you need to know for exams and quizzes. It is important to do the readings and attend discussion if you want to get a good grade. There is a midterm that provides 4 quotes from the readings and you write short essays on each quote. The final is similar. Attendance is taken in lecture with unannounced quizzes. Participation in discussion is also 15% of your grade.

Took this class over winter quarter. Professor Bargheer is a very boring lecturer. If you're not in the front row, you're probably not going to pay attention. I did not pay attention to his lectures and got an A- in the class, but there are 3 random pop quizzes given throughout the quarter so you must attend lecture. My discussion section was how I got the A. There was an in-class midterm where we had to answer a few short answer questions and a take-home final exam consisting of two essays. It isn't a hard A but is definitely not an engaging lecture whatsoever.
