Professor Bosch Santana has become one of my favorite professors at UCLA! Not only is she incredibly knowledgeable about her field of study, but she's very passionate about student learning. Since this is a core class for the major, COM LIT 100 isn't easy and does require work, but Bosch Santana ensures that her students get the most out of it. Love her!

Professor Bosch Santana lectures on super interesting content. I honestly just took this class because it hit a lot of requirements, but I found myself really engaged with the material every week. She was also incredibly accommodating, extending deadlines during weeks of stress caused by general unrest in the world. She definitely cares a lot about her students.

This is a really great Writing II– I took it online so I don't know how it varies in-person. We're graded on section participation and four essays.

Prof. Bosch Santana was really accommodating: our first two papers had deadlines extended for another 24 hours due to outside events. Discussion questions are due Thursday in the evening, so you have all week to do them. Readings can be a little heavy, but they're doable considering the lecture vids were released at the beginning of the week and discussions were always set on Friday.

Be warned, your grades won't be the best after the first essay: it's graded more strictly to give you material for the rewrite. I ended up doing a lot better on the next two. Office hours with your TA are really helpful if you're struggling with the prompts.

Discussions can be a little long but they definitely help in understanding the topics for the week. The TAs grade the essays + discussion question responses, so it's definitely good to go to discussion (other than just for the participation points) to get a feel for how they'll grade + what they respond to from the prompt (open-ended for the most part).

I had no idea what this Writing II was about before the class started, but I actually really enjoyed it. Prof. Bosch Santana is a great lecturer who's really knowledgeable about the topic. She provides a lot of background information and context to the texts that are helpful for analysis. The reading can be a little dry at times, but a lot of it is really interesting and fun to read.
