Great class to learn about the history of Energy in California and related policies. Weekly reading responses to readings (1 page each), two commentaries on news articles, attendance points (random lectures had attendance marked), a home utility bill assessment, no final test or midterm, and a final project. Also several very interesting guest lecturers. I learned a lot and thought it was not difficult to get an A!
Professor Pincetl taught a very informative class on Energy & the Environment in a Time of Climate Change. The class was great. The Professor herself is honestly kind of rude though. I went to OH several times and would talk about my ideas for a better future and she just shot every one of them down. She is very pessimistic, but I think it's still a good class to take as it's not stressful and it's interesting. I would definitely take it again.
As a teacher, she definitely knows a lot and you will learn a lot. Don't worry about writing everything down because there's no final (thank god). She's 50/50 on whether she likes questions depending on her mood. Sometimes she loves answering questions but sometimes she'll just look at you like you're stupid. I'd say it's good to ask Q's as long as it's a smart question esp if it shows you've done the reading. But DO NOT say anything that might contradict her beliefs....
The Class structure is simple and straightforward. It was just lecture with Pop Attendance (taken randomly), weekly Reading Responses of like one page which were graded very easily, 2 News Commentaries also a page, the Utility Bill assignment where you just analyze your own utility bill also very easy, and then a Final Project. Very easy and interesting class. I honestly loved it. Lecture is mandatory but again she doesn't taken attendance every time, but I would def still recommend going to learn some valuable info abt California's energy grid.
No discussion but the TA has Office Hours. My TA was Sebastian and he was great. We had some great discussions in OH and if you go he'll know you and might give you better grades. Make sure you're not late turning in any assignments though because they either won't accept them or points will be deducted.
