I feel like Hardinger is so underrated, he is probably one of the best science professors I have had at UCLA. His lectures are very clear and straightforward and he tries to make all concepts applicable. I think he is a fair test-giver, he never puts curveballs on the test and gives you plenty of material to study with. Definitely not an easy class, something you have to put time to, but doing well is possible with his great teaching and lecture material.

Take Hardinger for both Chem 14C&D. Hardinger has been my favorite professor thus far. His jokes in lecture are hilarious! Love his sense of humor. He is the most organized professor I've had. Everything you need to know is it the lecture supplement; no catches. He never throws any curve balls on his exams; they are very straight forward. You just have to stay on top of the material. Definitely do all of his past exams before taking his actual exam to get a feel for his testing style. Great professor overall. Highly recommend. Had a disastrous experience with Chem 14A/B, but am doing very well in organic Chem thanks to Hardinger.

Very fair professor. He is a great lecturer and explains the subject very well. The course is very organized so it is much easier to remember things. Tests are fair.

As a lecturer, he is good. Very good actually. Dry humor, more entertaining than Lavelle. In my opinion however, his exams are really stupid. They don't test how well you know organic chemistry. They test how close your thinking is with his. Many of his questions are fill in the blank, but he marks it wrong even if what you wrote is correct. He'll even say its correct, but that he won't do anything about it.

Overall, I probably won't take him for 14D unless there is no other professor.

Hardinger is pretty straightforward. Lectures are early in the morning, so I just watched all the Bruincasts. He wastes a lot of time making stupid jokes and comments, but its a small price to pay for the ease of the class. The class itself is composed of two midterms (25% each) and a final (50%) that you can either choose to be cumulative or noncumulative. I think that the best aspect of Hardinger is that he is totally predictable. He is not like Lavelle or Scerri, who are totally unpredictable in regards to what they may throw at you in their exams. Hardinger doesn't really have any tricky questions to throw at you. Just do all of the practice exams online and all of his practice problems, and you should be perfectly prepared for his exams. Also, do the extra credit, because every point counts. Another benefit to Hardinger is that he doesn't bell curve. Instead, he resets the boundaries to receive each letter grade: an A is 90-95%, an A- is 85-90%, etc. This way you aren't competing against everyone else.

Overall, I liked Hardinger. His tests are fair and predictable and he is a good professor. He makes organic chemistry interesting, although he does have too many stupid jokes. I got an A+ in this class by just running through all of his old exams.

Got an A+. Never went to discussion and only went to lecture for the first two weeks along with only skimming through the thinkbook. I recommend just skimming through the thinkbook solutions and memorizing the lecture notes. Also, do all of the practice exams. I got As in both 14A and 14B with Lavelle but this guy is a complete joke.

I like having Hardinger. His tests are pretty repetitive and the class literally just requires doing chemistry problems every day. His grading scheme is an 85% for an A- and it goes down every 15% after that. I got a 93 on the first midterm after doing plenty of problems and practice tests. If you do all of the practice tests and see each type of question, you will do fine. I haven't finished the class yet, but I just felt compelled to write a review on him.

Overall, he's a good professor, but he's pretty generic. Like the other reviews on here, he does waste some time during lectures talking about ridiculous things and his quirky jokes, but he explains every topic in such fine detail. Also, his resources are endless. Just pay attention, do chemistry every day, and you'll be fine.

He's a very good professor. He has a sense of humor, and his lectures are very well organized and clear, and he has a sense of humor. He's willing to answer low-tech questions on the most basic concepts, as well as high-tech questions going beyond the requirement of the couse. Just make sure that you do understand the concepts. For the exams, you should be very careful no to fall into traps; there're trick questions which you can miss because of carelessness. And actually, if you use the thinkbook, you'll be familiar with the potential traps. I did use the thinkbook, although I didn't write the full answers for questions that are too easy or repeatitive. I also like to extend beyond the scope of this course on concepts in the course. I got an A+.
