One midterm paper, one final paper, and a presentation with the TA. Professor Zipperstein has truly engaging lectures and can be a lenient grader. Totally recommend!!

Zipperstein is one of the best. He truly cares about his students and wants them to learn. The format is two papers (midterm and final) and a short presentation and can be about anything related to the class. He brought in several awesome guest speakers (one was the DA of Los Angeles) and is truly an expert himself. Take this class.

If you want to be a lawyer, or are thinking about it, this is an amazing class to take. Professor Zipperstein has had an amazing legal career and is so knowledgeable and approachable about the profession. He brought in multiple guest speakers, including the District Attorney and a Federal Judge. Overall the course load was fairly easy as you were graded on attendance and participation (not sure how they did this one as they never took attendance), a presentation/ mock-negotiation (given to either the TA or professor in groups of 1-4), a midterm paper (3 pages), and a final paper (5 pages). For the papers and the presentation or negotiation, you had free rein and could write about whatever you wanted as long as it related to the course concepts. Each week had a different theme, and the readings went along as supplemental materials to the lecture. Overall, it was one of my favorite classes I have taken at UCLA and Professor Zipperstein is an amazing professor.

Interesting class for people wanting to go into law. Class consists of 2 papers and a presentation. Work hard on the papers because they are the bulk of your grade.

This class was really informative and interesting if you're considering a career in law. The professor has so much legal experience and brought in really cool guest speakers in the field. It's easy to get an A if you just complete the work as well.

An excellent class with a professor who made it so excellent! Professor Zipperstein is really great, I enjoyed attending every lecture and thought all material was applicable and interesting. I'm not looking to be a lawyer so much of class discussions or the technical parts of the class were a bit lost on me. In fact, I came in considering law and through this class I realized maybe that's not my path, because the lens in which my peers talked about things through didn't resonate with me. If you want to be a lawyer you'd love this class, if you lean more towards social justice through policy than you might be a little lost when everyone gets all technical.

The course was very relaxed and easy, you really did get out what you put in. I agree with the other review, but I do think the class deserves a higher rating. Content wasn't revolutionary, but I definitely learned something new every lecture. Overall I would love to take another class with this professor!

Super easy class. Midterm essay, final essay, and oral presentation with your TA. All assignments you are free to choose your own topic, as long as it relates to the class. Lecture attendance was not mandatory most days, but was mandatory for guest speakers. Guest speakers were alright, minus some copaganda. Overall, not the most interesting course, but super light workload, and Zipperstein was engaging enough and really enthusiastic about engaging with students. If you need a random upper div to take, this is a good pick.
