Quarter: Fall 2019
Grade: N/A
March 11, 2020

This class was a bit strange, since the exams were both open-note and open-book. However, the exams were fairly challenging, especially because lectures were focused on derivations and not applications of the knowledge, and the exams were focused on application. The median for the midterm was 64% and the median for the final was 59%. I believe the median translates to approximately a B in the class.

There is weekly homework, and each problem is graded for correctness. Sometimes, he would create his own problems and those were significantly more difficult than textbook problems.

The professor consistently went overtime each lecture by 5-10 minutes, which is not ideal when you have another class immediately after. Fortunately, notes are uploaded online.

Professor Pamarti is a very good lecturer, and his explanations and notes are quite clear. The first half of the class is fairly easy if you took ECE 3. Exams are about the same difficulty as the HWs, which is fair. So make sure you can do that HW without external help if you want to do well on the exams.

Although he is a good teacher, the grading for this class may be harsh. Midterms and final averages were 50%. He hadn't intended to curve, but he kind of had to.

If you have no past EE experience don't take this class with Pamarti. He's not a bad lecturer, but his grading is really harsh so it cancels everything else out. He did curve, but I have some grievances with how he executed it. You can do well in ECE 100 (or at least significantly better) if you take it with a normal prof, and this guy will NOT be that for you. The quarter I took his class, the curve set a 30% in the class to be a C- (I think the class average was ~50%). Great in theory, but this guy managed to execute it in the worst possible way. Instead of having a regular A-F grade distribution, he decided to make it so that literally no one got a D?? I do not know who told him that was a good idea, especially considering 1/3 of the class got below a 30%. So anyways, approximately 23 people will have to retake ECE 100. Obviously a D on the transcript is not ideal, but its better than an F, and at least someone could still graduate with it if they don't have room in their schedule to retake. Cannot fathom why he didn't just give like half of the people D's. Final grievance, there was no partial credit offered on the homeworks or on the exams. Super frustrating when you do all the work right and then get knocked for the final answer. TLDR, you'll definitely learn something but you'll maybe not pass.
