Beware, it seems like the "positive" responses on this forum are from the professor, so take them with a grain of salt.
Average on the midterm was a 62%. She even admitted nobody learned anything. This class is worse than any community college course I have taken. There are MANY better econ elective professors out there.
I took the exact same test today and the person below me just needs to learn how to study. Even if you don't like her teaching style, the material is not that difficult. And everything on the test is on her slides. The short answer questions were very relevant to the class considering they are essential to the economic models we are studying. And she is nice as long as you put in any amount of effort in lecture. Granted she isn't the best lecturer but the course is not that hard. And she is nice.
horrible would be an understatement on how bad this professor is at teaching. If you want to study for 2 weeks, then go into a test and leave two short answers blank because the questions were so irrelevant and poorly made, then take this class. Lectures are very boring and are just an exact copy of slides that the book makes. By third week everyone that i knew was lost and didn't attend class anymore. What more, she doesn't attend the tests and doesn't allow questions to be asked...WHAT IF SOMEONE DOESN'T UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION? Please do not take this class; I repeat, DO NOT take this class.
Professor Ozler is a caring professor who wants to make sure that her students do well. If you ask questions and go to office hours, you can certainly do well. Like all classes, however, this class requires effort and preparation. Unfortunately, the scoring for our class became...chaotic, and thus many were unhappy with the results.
Prof Ozler is a teacher that cares for her student. If you come to class, pay attention, and take notes you are good to go.
During class she even goes over possible exam question from the book...so pay attention. She helped me develop a passion for International Econ...you must take her. In addition, she has a very generous curve at the end...so I dont know what exactly is everyone talking about...in conclusion, some time throughout your undergrad career at ucla u need to take her class...if not you are missing out!!
She is a terrible teacher. I'm a senior and this is the last Econ class I've taken, meaning I have had a lot of Econ courses. From someone who has taken a lot of Econ courses, this is not a Prof anyone should waste their time with. Honestly, I didn't think she'd be a great teacher when I enrolled, but her grading scheme seemed pretty generous, and the course looked interesting, so I just decided to take it. But her incompetence is much greater than I predicted. Going to class would be pointless, except she provides virtually no practice material online; so the only way to get some answers to the textbook problems is to sit through an entire lecture and then copy down the answers when she posts them up on the screen. This wouldn't be a bad class if you BUY THE TEACHER EDITION OF THE TEXTBOOK and teach yourself.
She complained a lot about what we should have learned in Econ 101 and didn't. Or at least she thought we didn't just because students rarely raised their hands to participate. She tried to make the class interactive, but we would have learned a lot more if she had spent more time actually lecturing and less time waiting for students to explain things. The tests were fair, but I was still disappointed that I learned more about trade theory in my other econ classes or even poli sci classes.
