This professor is absolutely amazing. I’ve been hesitant on taking the class because of the amount of things I heard from others. In the end, I found that the things that I heard were judgments of her background and identity. In reality, the professor is a grounded individual that welcomes controversial topics to class where all viewpoints are welcome. I learned things that I found extremely valuable. Highly recommend the class and professor.

Professor Hofnung is the best professor I have had at UCLA by far. Her class was very interesting, and I learned things I didn't know about Israel. While originally from Israel, she is very well-balanced in her perspective and presents a diverse range of viewpoints. She taught the material in a very engaging way, and she really cares about her students. I would highly recommend taking this class!

Take the class!

I felt like a learned a lot of information I didn't know about Israel, and the all the aspects it has.

She is very nice, and comfortable to talk to her.

If you pay attention it's really good class to succeed in.

Professor Hofnung is an excellent and engaging professor. Despite her background, she remains completely unbiased and professional in her instruction. The class consisted of a midterm, podcast, and final. Professor Hofnung's ability to communicate complex concepts with clarity and enthusiasm makes her classes both enjoyable and insightful.

Class consisted of a midterm, group podcast and final. Dr. Hofnung is Israeli from Tel Aviv, so her perspective is limited to her experiences. Therefore, you will hear denials of genocide being taught in this course, and Orientalist tropes such as portraying Palestine as a backwards society and the weaponization of LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, etc. I personally wouldn’t recommend this class, but it may help broaden your perspective into the way setter colonialists think.

This class consisted of a midterm, a "podcast," which was just a group project where you presented the readings, and a final exam. The midterm was very easy however, the final exam was difficult as it was cumulative. This class looked at gender in Israel as a case study. As such, many controversial topics arose, especially when we talked about Palestinians. This professor is Israeli, so her opinions are informed by her experiences. If you are pro-Palestine, this class could be useful to see another point of view or it could be very distressing when you hear denials of genocide. A very interesting class though the podcasts were very dry especially when people would just read from their notes.

If Dr Hofnung does not provide the final exam for this class, I will say that this class is a five-star class. Everything went well. But the final exam is very hard. The exam came with three parts, multichoice questions, multichoice questions with short answer explanations, and short answers. The professor did not provide you with the PPT and recordings for review. Also, it does not provide a study guide. So it was hard to prepare for the exam. If this class just used the final paper as the final grade. I will say this class is the best.
