I really enjoyed this prof and class. I didn't like all apsects of psychology, but I almost never got bored in class...and it's 2hrs. She uses lots of videos and demonstrations to help illustrate the concepts...which are interesting and especially helpful to me, as a visual learner. She doesn't cover everything in class that is assigned in the reading...so yeah...I would recommend you read as much as you can. The book is good and bad. Some of it is interesting, but some of it drags on. It is kinda bad that your grade is based on a midterm and a final (and everyone did really well on the final aka:not lowering the curve for the non-geniuses :) ), but it's also less stress throughout the quarter when there are only 2 tests. I'm a 1st year, and I thought she was very interesting, she always had jokes or stories that went along with the material, which was cool. She even gave us a 5 min break halfway through class. The reading load wasn't too heavy, but it was definitely a lot, and if you aren't motivated to read....well, get motivated. I liked this class...I'm not going to be a psych major I'm sure, but I'm glad I took the class. There were always interesting things to learn.
the videos were cool. she's always very prepared and is effective in making the material interesting and keeping our attention. she's passionate about what she teaches, especially evolution. 1 midterm, 1 final, 6 research hours. totally easy. go for it.
Overall, Addison is a really caring professor. Her classes are interesting. She often times plays videos that are really fun to watch and explaint he material well. Some of the material is a bit dry, but overall the tests are easy. The whole class is based on a grading scale that is decided after the midterm. One bad part about the class: there are only two components, a midterm and a final, each worth about 50% of your grade. So, if you mess one up, you are pretty much screwed for the rest of the class. She offers no extra credit either.
Addison is great professor. Her lectures are clear, nicely organized, and interesting. She has great demonstrations and videos. Lecture notes online, review sheets, multiple choice exams - she really makes it easy for you to do well. Keep on top of the readings and know the review sheets. Most people do well on the exams, so the curve is high, but she is very fair about it. I would highly recommend her.
Professor Addison, in my opinion, is a great professor. Her lectures were well orginized and she tries very hard to keep even the most boring of psychology interesting and fun via in class excercises, examples, and experiments. Her concern outside of class is very high - I went to talk to her about a simple question and she was very approachable and I wound up talking to her for some lengths on a variaty of different topics. Her passion for psychology transfers into her class. The ratings here dont even begin to do her justice.
STAY AWAY!!! She was by far the worse professor I have had here. I rarely give bad reviews, but DEAR GOD this lowered my GPA! It's not that the class is hard, but she rambles on during lectures and does NOT cover what is important! NOTE: UNLESS YOU READ THE BOOK THOROUGHLY AND LEARN COMPLETELY FROM THAT YOU WILL HATE HER CLASS. Hopefully she has improved since I last took her in Winter 2001. She seems like a very nice person, but she is a horrible professor!
I loved this class! Professor Addison is possibly one of the best professors I've had here at UCLA. I'm really disappointed not to have anymore lectures with her. Go to class! She keeps lectures interesting and funny. You learn a lot. The midterm was kind of difficult, but just try to keep up on all of the work. I highly recommend this professor.
Yes, Professor Addison is a very nice person and her lectures really are interesting. The class would be great if the whole grade weren't based entirely on the midterm and the final. I studied for hours and did all the readings and attended lecture, but she asked about the most miniscule points. No matter how much effort you put in, 10 weeks worth of hard work is all based on 110 points which you may or may not know. So if you want a grade based on chance, by all means, take her class.
Professor Addison is a very nice person and the material she teaches is very interesting even though the class is way too long. She tends to crack jokes at the beginning of class, which I think is pretty cool. Her demos and videos she shows during lecture are also very interesting and reinforce what she lectures. She's a really nice person and you should definitely go to her hours, especially before the exams. Don't procratinate and do the readings. If you do the review sheets, go to class regularly, and read you should get a really good grade. I would definitely recommend this professor. I can't wait to take her for another class.
