Quarter: Fall 2015

So I wanted to take a class with Teo since I was in middle school. I am the youngest in a very bruin family, so I grew up hearing amazing things about him. I had the opportunity to take on of his classes the first quarter I was here, so I jumped at it. He is honestly just an amazing person. Regardless of what class he is teaching, just take him even if you're not amazing at writing essays. Essays are not my thing trust me. He is always available for help, and he loves when students go to his office hours. If you show an initiative and go to his office hours and your TA's office hours you will get an A. He understands that not all students are great at essays, he just cares that you actually learn the material. So if he see's that you actually care about the class he will give you a good grade. He is honestly such an amazing person, and his life story is one for the history books. If you have a chance to take his class just take it. It seems like he is going to retire soon, since he only taught one class and two fiat luxes this whole year. You will never find another professor like Teo. Trust me.

Professor Teo is a really great professor! He is caring and very humorous too. He encourage us to talk to him during office hour and he even put his home phone number on the syllabus!

History 20 is an interesting course too. Although there's a large amount of reading to do, you do learn a lot of things if you put in your effort. This course is kind of philosophical too, so it is great for those who like to think. I like my TA Kristina too, and the result all depend on your TA. I put in a lot of work and went to my TA' office hours several times, and got an A+ in the end.

Overall, not an easy class if you are looking for a light workload. But I definitely recommend this class to those who truly want to gain some knowledge.

History 20 was a tough course, there was alot of work to do.

The readings were long, each week there were 50+ pages assigned.

There were 2 papers (each consisting of two essays) and a final paper (also of two essays).

I'm not a very good writer so I struggled with these tasks.

Teo's passion for the subject make his lectures engaging and interesting

Professor Ruiz is not only an inspirational lecturer, but also a truly amazing person as an individual ! His passion for what he does really touched me deeply. All he cares about is how much you've learned at the end, which is the true purpose of teaching. At the beginning of this class, he told us that don't worry about your grades in this class. Overall, this class is fairly easy. there's no midterm or final. all you have to do is writing 3 papers.
He is one of those teachers you have to take a class with by the end of your journey at UCLA !!! I'm not that type of person who would write reviews online, but I had to do this since it's Teo !!

The class is basically story time. He is a very interesting and engaging speaker. The class is based off of 3 essays, no midterms and no finals. He gives you the essay prompts 15 days in advance and you can get extra credit if you bring your rough draft to either the history writing center or the regular writing center. The grading of your paper depends on your TA. I would definitely recommend this class!

Ruiz makes lectures really enjoyable. He speaks mostly from memory and oftentimes goes off on tangents. He also cracks a lot of jokes and likes to make fun of students (in a good way).

His tests are actually all essays that you can prepare using the textbook/wikipedia, so going to lecture is not really necessary.

Took the class in Fall 2013. Professor Ruiz is one of the best professors I have taken at UCLA so far. The class is a good summary of historical events, but it never goes into too much detail for any time period. Overall, take this class for an easy GE and easy A.
