I think this class is one of my favorite classes in UCLA because it opens and challenges my worldview so much.
What is unique about this class is the content is directly related to the pandemic, and seeing my peers and my professor trying to understand and address current issues is very motivating to me.
The workload looks scary in the beginning, but most of them are short articles or videos. Also, they are carefully picked to provide many interesting arguments in discussion.
In summary, I love this class and would recommend everyone who loves art should take it. Great experience.

This was hands down my FAVORITE class that I've taken at UCLA! I was just taking it to fulfill my Honors Collegium requirement, but it ended up changing what I want to do with my life! Yes, there's A LOT of reading, but everything Professor Anderson assigns is so interesting that you WANT to read it. Plus, everything she assigned was just news articles, videos, and interviews, so no need to buy anything. She really demands that you stay engaged in the class (i.e. respond and discuss), but she's so sweet and the discussions are really interesting! This class inspired me to focus my overall research on the ways that art can shape community development, which I now hope to pursue in grad school. Take this class! It's a lot of reading and mandatory participation, but soooo worth it!
