I am completely baffled by these reviews. Terri Anderson is by far one of the best, most interesting professors I've ever had, and I've been in college now for seven years. This class didn't even count toward my GEs or other requirements, but someone told me I had to take her while I was at UCLA. And I'm so glad I did. I can honestly say that since taking this class, my whole perspective has changed. I realize that there are a lot of young people who don't take anything away from the class because they're apathetic and too busy texting and thinking about frat parties, but if you have more than half a brain you will learn so much from her. The Soc 1 class is a lot of work (journals every week, a 5-6 page essay, three 3-page experiments, and a 7-8 page research paper), so it's not for slackers..But honestly, if you want to gain anything from your education, or get a glimpse at how the world really works, you MUST take a class with her! If you go with an open mind, it will change your life.

I could not stand her lecturing skills. She constantly had discussions with the entire lecture hall (200+ students) about how we "feel" or what we "thought" of the material. She wasted at least 20-30 mins of class time each lecture listening to the same group of 10 students feel self important. Then we people like myself would walk out of class early because it was pointless she would take role right after we left. Her lecture was pointless - we were never graded on ANYTHING she presented in class except for the films we watched - which were rather obsucure and you need to go to class to watch them. Other than that I skimmed the articles before i wrote the papers and got an A- in the class. However, the TA Lucas Moreland was super chill and generally just stared at us in discussion then let us out early.

FYI WAIT LISTERS--shes a major bitch about this and refused outright to even address the subject until 3rd week, so she basically just wants u to do all the work and watch u squirm. yes in the end she let everyone that was still there in butt i wouldnt put it past her to never add u if there was a lot of people. overall some of the readings are actually quite good. butt 2/3 is not needed to get an A, just buy one and share it with someone, way cheaper, you do need access to it on a occasion so this would be your best option. she assigns some "experiments" which yes are nuts, but not hard just ridiculous. rather annoying, butt definitely doable. ta grades all those and the papers (no tests) so its really up to them. i wrote each essay the day of the class (started at 4) and put in very minor effort and got an A- definitely possible to get the A and by no means a painful class. going to class is not essential butt definitely in ur best interest.

I couldn't agree more with what everyone else had to say about Professor Anderson...the very first day of class, I thought she was a robot and it really took a while to get used to her style...the classes were really boring at times and I often found myself asking "why in the world am I here..?"...Doing all the readings is a complete waste of time...the best use for them would be as treatment for insomnia. The $120-priced course reader is tough to swallow, especially since its mostly filled with nonsensical rubbish, but all you have to do is read a few important ones and you'll make it...honestly, this class is really easy in terms of grading but the work is time consuming...you'll get the grade that you're looking for if u put enough time...my best advice would be: DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME DOING READINGS...THEY ARE A WASTE...PICK THE IMPORTANT ONES AND WRITE EVERYTHING BASED OFF OF THOSE

great professor. she really makes you think and her lectures are not too bad for being 2 hours long. the class was made up of three 5 page papers, three 4 page experiments, and 1 page weekly journals. it was an easy A if you you just do the work. i would suggest going to lecture. she showed about 4 movies that were pretty good. definatley take this professor as many times as you can, especially if you prefer writing. she does not believe in exams, which is nice. she is a nice person who likes teaching.
