Quarter: Winter 2019
Grade: A
July 9, 2019

I regretted taking this class and my love for philosophy by the end of the seminars (the last part made me truly give up), but I’d like to give Ted some credit. Yes he has the very boring old white guy accent where all the words get mixed up and it’s very hard to follow, and the material only gets good by the last week and then they decide NOT to focus on michel foucault as much as everyone else, but he is so sweet. He truly tried to help everyone in the ways he could and for that I am thankful. My TA was amazing which definitely contributed to me liking this quarter better. I also think porter’s quarter may have gotten rid of the B+ participation grade cap Dienstag’s quarter had which made people’s grades better.

Quarter: Spring 2016
Grade: B

He is not a good lecturer, and he doesn't make good powerpoint. But he is definitely a nice guy, and tries hard to make students more engaging, occasionally he makes some good jokes. I have to admit I fall asleep more than I did during the fall quarter.

Soooo incredibly boring to have to listen to him lecture.. and this class is only an hour and 15 minutes long. I feel terrible writing this--he does seem to be really nice--it's just that after two brilliant, eloquent professors before him in fall quarter, his lectures are extrememly disappointing. I'm afraid my grades are dropping. He does not outline his lecture notes well on the powerpoints, and half the time you cannot understand his mumblings and ramblings. It takes a decent teacher to make a subject interesting if it is not already, and Porter lacks the coherent enthusiasm and passion for his teachings that would otherwise make this subject material possible to understand. He does not even post lecture notes BEFORE lectures. Impossible class to take effective notes/comprehend material well/stay awake.
