Professor Smith taught Weeks 4-8 I think of the quarter I took it, with Professor Garrison teaching the rest of the time. I really enjoyed Professor Smith's portions because I am interested in conservation. He has a lot of knowledge and personal experience in the field and with various organizations. I think his lectures were well paced, with lots of pictures and interesting facts - although we did focus mostly on birds and I although I thought they were interesting it would be nice to learn more about other types of animals too. We did have a bit more work for discussion for Professor Smith's portion - a one-page essay about an assigned article and comparing/contrasting it with another scientific study of our choice. The exams asked very specific questions but they were open-note so they weren't difficult.

Wow! I am surprised there are no reviews on this guy, I LOVE LOVE LOVE professor Smith, he lectured for the course weeks 4-9 for the more ecology/biology related portions of this course. I'm already a conservation biology minor, but this professor made me really happy I made that decision. Every one of his lectures was perfect, not too long, enough information, explained easily, I also went to office hours, he is genuinely a nice guy who cares a lot about his students and the environment. Our assignments for this professor were that every week we would read an assigned paper, find another paper on an adjacent topic, and compare/contrast them. We also had a group project to present one of the assigned papers to our discussions, along with a couple of randomly assigned groups to complete worksheets which most of the time you have the option to do alone, which I like. Overall, this professor's portion of the class was well done, appropriate for the class level, and very educational, and he is a good educator/perfect lecturer (if you listen at 1.5x speed). He did a great job and I hope he's having a great day.
