The best professor I've had at UCLA so far. Lectures were well worth attending and always were interesting. I wouldnt say the material is too difficult, although there is quite a bit of reading. Nonetheless, this was the only class where I did not miss a single lecture or discussion over the whole quarter. A great class that will make you appreciate Italian culture a lot more. And the views you learn in the class can be applicable to American life as well. This was a class I'm glad I took as a GE, not because it was "easy" but because I learned a lot taking the class.

HARRISON is one of the better professors I've had at UCLA. He's a really cool guy and his sex and cinema course was excellent. The tests are fair and are easy if you've done the readings and watched all the movies. A couple of the movies aren't great but overall I liked the film selections. The only thing you have to watch out for is which TA you get because they are the ones that grade the papers.

Professor Harrison never fails to amaze me. If you want to understand life, the world, and yourself you can't miss out on this class-a truly enriching experience. He makes you inquisitive and curious about yourself and the world around you. I always looked forward to class, and every minute of that class was a minute that lived up to its full potential. He is one of the most thoughtful individuals I have ever met, and he is actually interested in student feedback. Don't be intimidated by his profound depth of understanding and knowledge, he is not pompous by any means. His lectures are overwhelmingly stimulating, and they make the movies so much more magical and fulfilling. In office hours-which everyone should definately attend-he is so engaging, kindhearted, and facinating. However, the downside is: getting used to such a top notch professor will make it extremely difficult to be satisfied with any of your other classes. He is truly remarkable.

Superb professor. His lectures are always interesting. The readings for this class are short and very interesting. Exams are simple if you attend lecture. I highly recommend this class!!!

Professor Harrison is an extremely knowledgeable man. The cinema class I took with him (Italian 46) was very enlightening. His lectures are always entertaining and straight to the point. He says what he has to say and dismisses class, without digressing and wasting time. You will leave each of his lectures feeling a little more knowledgeable. This guy really knows his stuff and knows how to effectively communicate it to students. Even if you don't have an interest in film or Italian culture, with Professor Harrison, you can't lose. If you just attend lectures, you will rock the midterm and the final. Great class! Take it...you won't regret it!!

If you need a humanities GE or are just curious, take this class!!! Professor Harrison is a very funny guy who breaks down allot of the topics in class easily for students to understand. Film screenings and lectures take up quite a bit of time, but honestly, it's well worth it. So far, it's probably one of the best classes I've taken at UCLA.

prof. harrisons class was way cool. i mean it was interesting first off -- just plain old fun to watch the movies. but then it got deeper. he made sense out of freud and then you realized what a genius the guy was. brought up a lot of sexual/religious issues esp. about how to reconcile the two. and it fills a GE.

Italian 46 is a great GE to take. You learn a lot about film in general, as well as Italian culture. The midterms are multiple choice, and Harrison and the TA's prepare you very well. Keep in mind that you will have to write 3 essays and that there is a lot of time in class because of film screenings.

Italian 46 with Harrison was an awesome class! I learned so much about film in general as well as about Italian culture and history. Professor Harrison is a great lecturer and provided profound insight into the films we watched. The required readings were for the most part interesting and the films we watched were definitely thought-provoking, even if some were a bit bizarre. The midterm and the final were both multiple-choice and I felt extremely well prepared for them by Harrison and the TAs. Take Italian 46 for a Humanities GE!! You will not regret it.
