Just go to the TA review sessions. only Melissa really knows whats on the test so she can actually tell you what to study and what not to study, all the other TA's can only answer questions for you about the material. Don't read anything that's not on Melissa's notes because it's a waste of time since his tests are so specific to certain areas you won't ever finish reading enough if you try and read everything.
that's basically all you need to do to do well on the tests. his material seems easy but he in no way tests his material the way he teaches. READ THE BOOK.
I talked to him once and told him i was having trouble and if he had any tips. he asked me if I was a transfer student and when I said no he said nothing except that if i'm not a transfer student i should be able to figure out the information just fine. lol insensitive much.

Honestly, horrible.
His lectures are all over the place, with waaaay too many unnecessary stories about his personal life. Pretty sure he ran out of time to fully teach us the material because of his repeated digressions.
Tests are purposefully tricky. and he does not let you see your scantron or exam after, all your answers are entered in the computer on an excel sheet by the master TA according to student ID number, TONS of room for error.
On top of that, I still have no idea why i received the grade i did in his class because he is IMPOSSIBLE to get in contact with!!
Emails, calls, and no office hours?
talk about unavailable.
Still unable to speak to him about my grade because i can't find the guy!
Which leads me to believe I am not the only one having the problem with my grade...

avoid like the plague, he sucks.

This guy is a goddamn ghost. I spent more than a month trying to get in contact with this professor after a major mistake in my grade, calling, e-mail, showing up to his office (no office hours this quarter by the way). Got back one e-mail, almost met with him until I found out he had left for the day at noon after agreeing to meet with me at 4. Never had such a hard time of getting in contact with a professor.

Despite previous ratings, I thought that Professor Minor was great lecturer and a great professor! Compared to what I have heard about other professors who teach this course, Minor is incredibly clear and thorough. He spends a lot of time on each of the experiments he presents, walking through them step by step, making sure that they are understood. He is always willing to answer questions during lecture, as well as before or after. While the tests are difficult, I thought that they were completely doable, and got an A in the course. It is really about being able to understand and apply the information flexibly, taking the principles he discusses in lecture and using your creativity to apply them to other situations... it was actually pretty fun. The only complaint I might have is that reading the book - and you read all of it - is very time consuming, and this work is not proportionately reflected on the test. However, the TAs did hold a book discussion where they told us what material to focus on.

I disagree when people say that he's mean. He's actually a great guy. I thought lectures were interesting and he made me laugh a lot. He does go off on a tangent A LOT. If you ask a lot of questions, it puts lectures behind and he'll cover less material (which is good -> less things you need to know). Also, the tests are really tricky. Most of the exam covers lectures. Focus on lecture. He assigns a lot of reading, but the T.A. makes up the questions from the book for the exam and they have a book review session that you should attend so you know what to focus on in the readings. The curve is pretty good. You can fail the first midterm and still get a low A in the class if you do well on the final. Also, it's true when they say his lectures don't coincide with the readings. If you take this class, you gotta record his lectures and study A LOT.

Professor Minor was really, really bad. He is disorganized and when he lectures, he thinks he is funny but he is actually a complete and utter moron. His lectures are all over the place and he make announcements such as changing the three-hour final to 50 minutes trying to trick students so he can fail them, which he does. His TA's aren't even informed of these trick announcements!!! When you talk to him or ask him questions he is very mean and short and looks at you like you are dumb. Whatever you do, take a different professor for this course. I don't even know why he is a professor. Aren't professors suppose to teach you things and make you feel like you are learning? Professor Minor does just the opposite. He makes students want to drop out of school. What a shame.

After reading the reviews on bruinwalk, I hesitated to take this class with him. But he's not that bad. Professor Minor takes the dense material and simplifies and clarifies it very well. His lectures are quite interesting, as he always has stories to share, and the stories expand on the material that we are learning. Although he speaks fast, using the lecture notes from ackerman was very useful, especially in filling in the blanks in my own notes. His tests were fair. I'd say that it'd be smart to:

1) Make use of the office hours
2) Get to know your TA's. They know the stuff.
3) Study the lectures...but DON"T skip out on the text. The textbook went into the concepts discussed in class even further, and helped students gain a better understanding of how concepts are applied in the real world and in experiments.
4) GO TO LECTURE! Professor Minor had "pop" quizzes for us, so they were good for grade boosting and helping us go to class.

I enjoyed my class with Professor Minor, despite the fact that the class was at 8 a.m. and everyone was still half asleep. But because of the early morning factor, I think Professor Minor made up for it with his interesting stories and great TA's.

Horrible class, horrible professor. One of the most uncaring professors I have ever had. The tests were incredibly hard, and he really doesn't care about his students. I emailed him a week before the final with questions about the material and he never emailed me back. Not only is this one of the most boring classes I have ever taken, but it's taught by the most arrogant professor. If you have to take 110 DO NOT take it with Minor.

I loved the class, got a B, which is alright. He tries to make the pretty dry material fun (thus, Snoopsky from the previous review). Although I said it's dry material I really liked it, so you really have to have the taste for this kind of stuff. Memorization will not serve you well in this class, you will deffinitely have to understand the material. But don't be descouraged some memorization is useful. If you want to take 110, I recomend taking it in the summer, smaller class, and the professor can take the time to explaine the difficult parts.
