I took this class because I am interested in becoming a therapist, and wanted to understand how culture may impact mental health. This class did not disappoint! I thought that the material presented in class was very relevant and well picked out. Though the readings could get to be long, they were definitely important studies (and also, possible to skim). The lectures are very clear, and the midterm and final are very fair. Dr. Brannon was incredibly thoughtful and also understanding of the circumstances of this quarter and I am very grateful for that. I feel like I learned a lot from her, and would recommend this class to other people. I also liked the paper as it helped with applying course concepts to my life and reflecting on the takeaways from the class. No weaknesses!
Not the easiest class but manageable if you pay attention. Professor Brannon is a very kind professor but she is strict on her syllabus. Missing class is not a good idea. She does offer plenty of extra credit though. Grades are made up of one midterm, a couple of participation activities, a group project, and a final paper based on the research project. The people you get assigned with for your group project can really make or break the class. Sometimes the lectures felt irrelevant but overall a good class.
