TAKE. THIS. CLASS. Tim was literally the spark of my day. There are iClicker quizzes at the end of lecture so go to lecture (he just has you get the app not the real clicker) that he basically gives the answers to. The readings aren't super necessary as he goes over them but they're super fun anyway. The midterm and the final are both online (although he ended up canceling our final anyway). He gives out EC just to participate in little skits or go see plays in LA. Easiest A of my life and a fun one at that. And it satisfies the diversity requirement! Do it!
Best G.E. to take on campus by far if you're looking for an easy A.
Just go to class for attendance and answer extremely basic participation quizzes at the end of each lecture. Even if you barely pay attention during his lectures you should be able to answer the questions. That said, Tangherlini is passionate about what he teaches and makes lectures very engaging and funny so it isn't hard to stay focused on the material.
50% of the grade is participation through the attendance and in-class quizzes so make sure to actually attend every lecture to ensure a high grade. The midterm and final are both 25% each and our midterm was a very simple online 25 multiple choice question test. Tangherlini is also very lenient on making up in-class quizzes if you have an excused absence as half the class consisted of athletes who had to be out for games, etc.
Also, I doubt more than half the class completed all the readings, if any, so the workload really isn't bad at all. Pay attention in class or just review the lecture slides he posts online to do well on the midterm. Our final was cancelled but I'm sure it's just as easy because it's not cumulative.
If you do end up missing some lectures, there are extra credit opportunities to make up for lost points. For us, we could watch an additional movie at home or attend a play to get extra credit.
Overall, I learned a surprising amount about Scandinavian culture which I didn't think would interest me at all and I would definitely retake this class again if I had to.
Timmy teaches us about norse gods and trolls. Not only does he teach those things, Timmy IS those things. HE IS A GOD and the ULTIMATE TROLL. Funniest professor I've ever had and ever will have. 10/10 laugh your röv off every class period. I measured the joke rate in this class and he pops one, on average, every 6.69 seconds! Not only that, he trolls you hard. Prepare for the ultimate trollride of your life. If you are genuinely want to learn about Scandinavian Studies, you will get that for sure. He is very knowledgable about the subjects. BUT, if you want an easy and enjoyable GE, this is a MUST COP.
Tangherlini is the GOAT. The troll of trolls, the goat of goats, the legend himself. He is the funniest professor i've met and he is so lovable. Teaches passionately with funny stories and is kind and patient. Professor, you are the best. Forever legendary!!!
When you first get into this class, it seems really kick back and relaxed... but its not. Sure, there isnt too much work to do, but the grading is very hard on the midterms and essays. I asked the TA for help on my essay and we worked on it for a while, and even after all his help I ended up with a B or B- on it. His lectures aren't that bad though cuz he uses powerpoint and he puts it online, so that helps.
