tldr: take Psych 115 with Tony Ye!

Professor Ye does an excellent job at explaining material in a way that's easy to understand, even without a previous neuroscience background. His exams (the midterm and final) are very straightforward. He provides study guides and as long as you can answer the questions on there you should be good to go.
There are weekly quizzes that are written by the TAs, and these are more difficult than professor Ye's questions. There were a few ambiguities but he gave us points back for those questions.
There were a total of 15 extra credit points possible.
I highly recommend going to his office hours.

TLDR: King. Sent from the Gods. TAKE!

Made an account for this review. I'm a senior and this was my FAVORITE course/professor yet.
-One of the realest and genuine people I know. He wants everyone to succeed. He has so many office hours, really detailed and organized lectures, and answers emails quickly.
-Makes college fun and applicable. Feels like one of the homies are teaching, his meme game is supreme, he throws in silly answers sometimes, info just CLICKS, YOU GET THE VIBE.
-Really knows his stuff well; seriously this dude is a genius and is so busy, but always makes time for his students. He was always able to create and help students understand alternative reasonings if they didn't understand a concept. I always felt I could apply all the info irl; I never really integrated school and work life, but I did with this course.

You can tell when a professor wants you to genuinely learn and feel good about it; his personality radiates this. Can not stress this enough, amazing person and professor!

Note: Assessments are monitored via Lockdown Browser & I get really anxious, but as long as you absorb his lectures, you'll ace it. His tests are truly reflective of how well you understand the material holistically. No BS. Professor Ye is a gem.

Dr. Ye is an incredible, caring professor who genuinely wants us to succeed and do well in his class! I 10/10 RECOMMEND!! Take him if you get the chance! He really enjoys what he’s teaching and does a great job of it with organized lectures, and quizzes each week that will prevent you from procrastinating (if you tend to do that like me)! He also gives out extra credit in case you lose any points on quizzes or the exams!! His midterms are often funny and VERY FAIR! He gave us a study guide before the exam and literally that’s all you need to study to do well (and you bascically already studied everything for the quizzes anyway)! His lectures were extremely engaging and not too long (they were prerecorded) and he is very considerate of all his students. We had a quiz from one of the TAs that was poorly worded and confusing around week 4 and Dr. Ye went back and explained the material and was able to adjust the points to make up for this mistake! Genuinely loved this class and that’s saying a lot because it was neuro!! I learned SOOO much and I’m pretty sure it’ll be in my long term memory from how many times the material was studied (unintentionally too like for the quizzes and midterm and final). He’s a really chill and funny dude and honestly an all around great teacher!! Take him if you get the chance!!

I'm writing this review for Psych 124C Human Memory. This was one of the BEST classes I have taken at UCLA! I learned so much and it's all thanks to his amazing teaching style! His lecture slides are super engaging and are really easy to follow! Although there was a lot to memorize each week, I never felt lost and knew that I could grasp the main concepts.

If you ever have the chance to take a class with him DO IT!!!! He is seriously the best professor I have had at UCLA!

***THIS REVIEW IS FOR PSYCH 124C FOR SUMMER SESSION A 2021***

Just like all the other reviews, for 124C, Professor Ye is truly sent from the Gods to bless students with good vibes. He is super engaged with the lecture, super fucking enthusiastic, and cares so much about his students. He condenses very abstract difficult material from 124C and lectures them in an understandable manner and is easily accessible in his office hours if something wasn't cleared up in the lecture. He is very generous and approachable with any school-related topic and discusses many aspects of his graduate school career along with the work he does in his PhD studies. I truly loved this class, look forward to taking another class he teaches in the next summer and this class honestly kept me going because of how much I looked forward to clicking PSYCH 124C - HUMAN MEMORY on CCLE every time I logged in.

Once again, 10/10 Professor. Nuff said. Have a blessed day to the people who read this and have the opportunity to become his student one day <3

Like Neuroscience, it's a lot of heavy reading. HOWEVER, all the information was on the slides! Lectures are very engaging, interesting and his tone isn't as dry when you try to listen at 1.5 speed at night. Office hours really pay off, and he accepts appointments outside his usual hours! Overall, he's very approachable.

I learned a lot in this class, and this is my first neuroscience class. He makes learning about synapses and action potentials really worthwhile.

He does release a study guide of what we should be focusing on for tests! And you can go over it in your TA's office hours.

Maybe this was a summer class, and it definitely was a lot of material, but for sure I learned something new and interesting. 10/10 recommend, even if I had to study by butt off. He's a postdoc, but he can damn well lecture.

Professor Ye was awesome and I'm so glad I took his class. His lectures were funny, enjoyable and super straightforward. The textbook was not required and everything you are expected to learn you can trust will be covered in lecture. So, it was super low stress due to how clear and straightforward everything was. And Professor Ye was just so chill and fun! I miss this class already! Definitely take this class if you have the option to!

Professor Ye is a super chill professor, and I am very glad that I decided to take his class this summer. His grading scheme for the summer is 100 points midterm, 100 points final, 50 points quizzes (6 quizzes in total and you can miss one without any penalty), and 15 points extra credits. If you completed all 6 quizzes, he also took half of your lowest quiz and make that extra credit as well.

Personally, I find it quite easy to understand Professor Ye in most cases: he does a pretty good job at explaining most concepts, and his lectures were always fun and engaging. However, there were a few topics that I had some trouble understanding just by watching his lectures, and I also had to read the textbook to fully grasp the concepts. Turns out it's usually just the organization of his slides that gave me a little bit of confusion (but it appears to work for other students so it's probably just me), but once I read the textbook and go back and re-watch his slides, everything always becomes super clear.

I would definitely take Professor Ye's class again, since it was a really enjoyable experience taking this summer class with him!
