Dr. Longcore is an excellent professor, whose passion and enthusiasm for the subject really show through. I had him for Geog 2 a year ago, and he still remembered my name a year later in Geography 5 - a rare quality in any professor who teaches classes of over a hundred students. Midterm and final aren't difficult, just study your lecture notes and his slides online and you'll get an A. (no book necessary) Listen to his examples and stories, because they will most likely show up on exams in one way or another. Lectures are powerpoint, and he makes most of them available online for download. Sure, his personal opinions show through, but he provides disclaimers beforehand. Besides, he encouraged class discussions where he would just shut up for a while and point to students who had something to say and let them talk, regardless of whether they agreed with him or not, and his eyes light up when students debate. He jokes around, but it doesn't detract from the lectures at all. I'm a Geography minor, (possibly major) because of Longcore, and lastly, you must go to his office hours because he is always ready to help with a smile and a "hey (insert name), what can I do for you?" He's a lot of fun to talk to, and he takes practical jokes really well. EXTREMELY highly recommended.

An absolute must take. Professor Longcore makes the class very interesting. He jokes around, but he doesn't overdo it. Going into the class, I didnt have much interest for the subject, but he made it so interesting, I actually thought about majoring in it, and I'm an econ major. You learn so many interesting things, you get an A, and you never open the book. All you need to do is go to lecture, understand the material which comes to you with ease, and spend an hour or two studying for the exams. I barely studied for anything, and I got an A. The class requires listening, a little interest, and not much more. Easiest class I have taken thus far.

This class was not the best. Longcore manages to have disorganized lectures on powerpoint (difficult to do, in my opinion). His tests for this class were ID and short answer; on the 2nd midterm he asked things from before the 1st midterm which he had said he wouldn't do. Very little material from the reading; almost everything from lecture. A few of the lectures were interesting but, in my opinion, biomes are mindnumbingly boring. Labs were way too advanced mathematically (statistics and logarithms required) for many of the students in the class. In the end, Geog. 2 is just another GE.

Dr. Longcore was an intelligent and caring professor. He is easy to talk to and willing to help in any way that he can. I would recommend taking his biogeography class to any of my friends and I would take classes taught by him in the future.

Longcore is a very organized professor and knows how to relate to his students. The labs are not long or complicated. If you go to lectures, take notes and read the book, exams are easy. He does not try to trick you making this class one of the easier classes I've taken.

An excellent teacher. That's all I have to say. He gets to the point and explains things clearly. He is young and still very much in touch with the students: their views and concerns. This is the type of teacher you could hang out with just because he is such a nice guy and is still in touch with "kids today." Highly recommended!

Professor Longcore's a really cool guy. His power point presentations are VERY detailed and pretty much cover all test materials. Speaking of the tests, nothing surprising ever comes up; they're pretty straight forward. He also cares about the environment and it shows through lecture material and extra credit stuff. Anyway, nothing is quite an 'easy' A at UCLA... but Longcore is definitely on the easier side.
