Fall 2025 - Professor Griffey is very passionate about the labor movement and greater social movements in the United States. I thoroughly enjoyed the historical and early origins of labor movements in the US, especially those related to the New Deal, as Professor Griffey made those lectures very interesting and engaging. As we moved towards more modern labor movements, the class pace slowed, as did the movements, although not due to the professor's fault, he tried his best to keep us as engaged as possible. I enjoyed the class, but I did find Professor Griffey to be slightly unorganized when it came to class assignments. A lot of the time, he would give us vague prompts for the essays and contradictory information in class and office hours. This also happened with our TAs, with them giving us information that would then be contradicted in lecture. If it were not for this, I argue the class would've been much more enjoyable, but it was a truly interesting class.

Winter 2019 - He's honestly one of the coolest white guys ever. I really loved how engaging him lectures are. They're extremely informative and he's not a boring lecturer. If you asked him a question, he was really nice about it. Never did he feel condescending or mean. Welcoming environment. His essay's are topics you want to talk about so it's not tiresome.

Winter 2025 - Professor Griffey is a great professor. I took labor studies just for upper division credits and started the quarter worried I was not going to enjoy this class but I was wrong. Great professor and is very confident when he speaks and he knows what he is talking about. Homework is mainly just reading but you will write 3 essays (may vary). First 2 essays are not that bad, the last essay is 8-12 pages. Other than that, everything went smoothly this quarter. Hopefully I get to take another one of his classes in Fall 2025. Highly recommend this professor if you are just looking for upper division credits and for a chill class overall.
