Fall 2024 - I'm a stem major who took this on a whim because I needed a 3rd class, and it ended up being one of my favorite classes I've taken at UCLA so far. His lectures are very engaging and they're recorded as well, although he does check for attendance via a Google form that he puts up a QR code for during class. Absolutely loved my discussions with my TA (shout out to Kerr!) and the workload was moderate—20-40 page readings every week, watching a few documentaries, and 2 papers, one of which counted as the final. There was an in-person midterm that was very easy to do well on as long as you knew the keywords. If I could take this class again I would!

Winter 2019 - He's honestly one of the coolest white guys ever. I really loved how engaging him lectures are. They're extremely informative and he's not a boring lecturer. If you asked him a question, he was really nice about it. Never did he feel condescending or mean. Welcoming environment. His essay's are topics you want to talk about so it's not tiresome.

Winter 2025 - Professor Griffey is a great professor. I took labor studies just for upper division credits and started the quarter worried I was not going to enjoy this class but I was wrong. Great professor and is very confident when he speaks and he knows what he is talking about. Homework is mainly just reading but you will write 3 essays (may vary). First 2 essays are not that bad, the last essay is 8-12 pages. Other than that, everything went smoothly this quarter. Hopefully I get to take another one of his classes in Fall 2025. Highly recommend this professor if you are just looking for upper division credits and for a chill class overall.
