By far the best professor I've had at UCLA. Went the extra mile to help students wherever possible. Gave generous deadlines if you're behind on your hw. Not the easiest course material (not to mention the extra MATLAB work) but he tries his best to make it interesting and understandable and succeeds. All of the exams and homeworks have real-world based problems instead of contrived math so it gets a little complicated but at least it's not all mind numbing math. Wish I could take all my classes with this guy.
Absolute GOAT professor!

Prof. Clites is THE most blessed professor. This man goes the extra mile to make sure we understand all the concepts, and is super considerate of our situation and works extra hard to ensure equity on the exams without all the proctoring nonsense. His lectures are super engaging and makes effort to point to real life applications and examples rather than "contrived math."
Also, Prof. Clites is absolutely big brained. He explains everything so well, even his research (on surgical prosthetics!!) Overall super inspiring dude. Like other reviews below, I wish he taught all of my classes.

Great professor, great class. Professor Clites does everything he can to make sure everyone in the class feels welcome and included. He in facts make it a point in his first lecture. He also teaches matlab as a part of his course, even though it isn't a course requirement, but he makes it beginner friendly, filling in code in the beginning of the quarter, and slowly transitioning to your assignments being entirely self written. His grading policy is extremely generous, as least in the COVID situation. His lectures are comprehensive of the homework, quiz, and midterm material, and he often tries to apply our class concepts to real life situations to show us its real life applications. His office hours are also super helpful in case you have questions or just want to hang out. Overall amazing professor, take this class if you have the chance!

This professor literally the GOAT. Makes a tough subject to learn easier through engaging material and he genuinely cares about the education his students receive. Actually would have him teach every engineering class if I could.

This man has single-handedly carried us through this COVID stained quarter. He is the most wholesome person who just cares about teaching and cares about the work he is doing. I would take whatever class Dr. Clites is teaching because I know it will be amazing. He is making the world a better place, and one day, the world will know his name.

Professor Clites was one of the kindest, most empathetic, and helpful professors I have had so far. His teaching ability is on point and his accessibility is unrivaled. MATLAB is a hard thing to learn but he is very effective at walking through it and making it understandable to all of his students. I would 100% recommend him for this class.

a lot of MATLAB usage, took M20 concurrently and had no issue with that though. weekly homework involves book problems and a MATLAB problem that initially gives a lot of steps, and throughout the quarter lessens in its guidance (at a good pace, by the end i didn't need the previous tutorial-like format because i had learned how to do them).

the midterm was 3 hours, and that clock could be started anytime within a 24 hr period. it was a lot to do within the time frame, and he realized that, and decided to change the format of the final to a full 24 hr window. if he continues with that format then the tests should not be a worry.

a lot of focus on not doing pure math problems, he prefers to represent actual physical systems. would require physics knowledge, but the equations are all generally given in the notes, so if you attend lecture you'll already have representations of the systems in equation form.

By far one of my favorite classes and professor at UCLA. Clites went an extra mile in everything to make sure we understood the material and that he was being as fair as possible. The MATLAB definitely was very time-consuming-- I barely knew any coding before coming in. The first 2 problem sets were a challenge, but rest-assured that you have a very helpful professor and TA'S who want you to succeed so it's so easy to get help, not feel dumb, and understand coding. I honestly learned so much from this class and I highly recommend you to take it.

Epic professor! Super wholesome, kind and caring. He's a very good professor and teaches all the concepts very clearly. He is also very clear about what he wants us to get out from the class and is super accommodating. He always encourages you to reach out to him if you feel like you're struggling to meet a deadline or with the workload and will try support you in whatever way he can, including providing extensions for the work.

The workload isn't light, however. The homework was quite long at times, especially the ones involving MATLAB. I hadn't expected to do MATLAB coming in to this class, so please be warned! The MATLAB was tricky to pick up at times, so definitely consult with him in office hours and ask friends/peers for help on the assignments if you need it (even if other reviews are making it sound like it's easy to learn).

As with the contrived maths, I personally enjoy contrived maths problems since it makes the numbers easier, but Tyler does a good mix of both contrived maths and real-world scenarios during his lectures and on the homework.

Fantastic professor! Highly recommend.

He emphasizes the use of matlab with his homework assignments, so if you've taken M20 before then you shouldn't have an issue. I didn't and it took stupid long to complete . Tyler's lecture made it worth in the end.
