First midterm was trash and the regraders are ludicrous and ridiculous with how they refuse to give any points back, it's like they are hogging all points to fulfill some twisted dream of their of seeing others fail. We were thought to believe the practice would be like the actual midterm but alas it wasn't. The average was a god damn 71% percent which is GARBAGE and shows the lack of understanding that the class felt. Getting docked 3 whole points for a misinput of a number is far from ridiculous, IT IS ABUSRD. I hate this department so much I could write a symphony. AVOID! I was suppose to have Samani, I can't stand this anymore.

This review is for physics 1c but it wasn't listed on bruinlearn so I'm adding it here. This professor is a nice person let me just preface with that. However he is just plainly not smart. He was unable to answer any questions about the topics we were covering, I genuinely thing if he took his own class he would fail it. He does not know how to do math so I'm not sure why he was teaching an engineering physics class. He would often stummer and say sorry I'm more of a theorist which is just not a good response for a teacher. Also the second midterm was not graded until the week before the final which was extremely frustrating. The TA was much much more knowledgable on the subject and honestly smarter. This being said it had its advantages. He ofter would put practice midterm questions on the midterms because I genuinely think he was too stupid to come up with his own questions. He started the class on top of it but became more and more slacked on this class. Not uploading the lecture notes and board work and genuinely just taking so long to grade or upload practice midterms. I would not recommend him, but he isn't the worst, but not great and not clear at all. Definitely do the homework and practice midterms to do well in this class.

Professor Yu is very cool and helpful. His lectures are clear and helpful. You get a cheat sheet (front and back) for both midterms and the final exam, and he curves the class upward to a B average (doesn't curve down). He really wants his students to do well and keeps topics pretty simple. He knows this class is for non-stem majors/intro to physics, and he caters towards students with no previous understanding of physics.

When I took this class, it was Mathew’s first quarter of teaching. He knew most of the class were Psych or CogSci majors, so he went REALLY easy on us. Most of the more difficult Physics topics weren’t covered or not tested. His lectures were engaging because he tried to do a least one demonstration every day, and had volunteers help him with it.

During midterm and finals season, his office hours were really helpful, and he provided a study guide. If you’re even a little bit familiar with physics, you’ll be golden. This class was kindergarten level physics.

Good professor, just make sure to read the syllabus. two midterms, but they are really easy. make sure to attend to labs and do them, tas will help u a lot. I would take the class again

This professor was very nice and very flexible. He was always open to questions and even went the extra mile to remind people to contact him if they needed accommodations. He cared deeply about student understanding and provided very helpful study guides. This class was pretty easy if you put in the effort. Carefully review the study guide and homework questions and you will be just fine. There were homework assignments every week, two midterm exams, and one final exam. Lab was also doable and the TAs were there for help if needed. He also offered 3% extra credit for visiting Griffith Observatory. I recommend this class !

Professor Yu is a nice and engaging professor. He cares deeply about his students, always asks if people have questions. This is a great GE, the professor us very interested in Astronomy. I would be willing to take another course from this professor. Tests aren't too bad as long as you make a quizlet and study it!!

He is super nice, helpful, and a very good professor. He always asks if anyone has questions throughout class. The average for the first midterm was pretty low but it was just because people really didn’t study. If anyone even looked at the study guide they would’ve been fine. Great prof for a GE but go to class and lab.
