I took him for 6B and got a B. I got an A in 6a (just FYI). I am posting this because I might take 6C with him (schedule works perfectly). I just wanted to warn everyone who might read the comments and think he is easy... HE IS NOT EASY! I was at the time taking 5 classes and 6B is just hard. He might be easier than harder professors like coroniti or nieman, but that doesn't mean you'll get an A... he totally trolled us by saying the second exam will be easier than the first because the first was hard (lecture 1 not lecture 2 like the review below)...the average was around sixty something...can't exactly remember. I didnt do Serway, just the normal problems. I also didnt study everyday. I studied more for LS3. I'm pretty sure if I studied as hard as I normally do I would've gotten a higher grade but not an A. Just keep that in mind before you add this class with 3 other classes or something haha. That being said, he is a chill guy and his OH is always full. I would say it is Garg status full.
ABOUT THE PROFESSOR:
Awesome! He's very approachable, answers questions in class and is more than available to meet students regarding grades or additional appointments outside of office hours.
THE CLASS:
Graded on a straight scale (100-90 =A etc.) with NO QUOTA on number of A's. The topics covered for the first midterm are very interesting, the second midterm is meh, and the last unit, again are very interesting.
TESTS:
DO PROBLEMS OUT OF THE SERWEY BOOK! Peroomian wrote solutions for this book, so a lot of problems are IDENTICAL homework questions with the numbers changed. other sources of test problems are: LECTURE EXAMPLES, REVIEW PROBLEMS, AND PRACTICE PROBLEMS. He recycles his problems from stuff he's emphasized in class or in his review.
The midterm averages when I took the class were 85%, 65%.
RESOURCES:
The review session before tests is extremely helpful. TA office hours are useful for clarifying concepts.
What I would've done differently:
Honestly, just slept more the night before the tests. I had a 10 point gap between B+ to A- and I feel like if my brain was more prepped at the very least I could've gotten more partial credit points.
Best of Luck and I definitely recommend him!
Dr. Peroomian is my favorite professor during my UCLA undergraduate experience!!
I will give you an honest and pure evaluation!!
He really cares about his students and he makes himself available to them. He is also the best Physics professor UCLA have had so far. Not only, is he very passionate about the subject he teaches, but he is very knowledgeable about the topic as well. He really knows how to explain the material very clearly.
Now Let's talk about important business.. GRADING!!
The class is Ace-able and the exams were moderately nice.. The professor is lenient and open minded and he would never deny a regrade if you request it. He would always try to work for your favor..
HOWEVER, I got an A but I worked really hard for this class. I answered all the homework problems and the extra practice problems, besides some serway problems and his study guides as well.
You should know that all his midterms and the final actually will have 1 problem from your homework, usually it is a challenging idea and students miss it because they did not actually understand what they were solving.
What worked for me, I solved those problems 3 times each before exams. I also did his lecture note examples and made sure I am very good at getting to a solution pretty fast.
For exams, you get to take a cheat sheet with you.. you can put anything you want on it. mostly formulas so you won't get lost
Peroomian really does want everyone to get A's, and formats his course so that this is very possible. All you have to do is learn from his lecture notes, do the homework and the problems from the Sergway book and you will do well. However you have to take into consideration that if the course is extremely easy then you have to do exceptionally better than the curve on most tests in order to get an A. Don't get over confident.
Background: Skipped 6A (AP Credits)
No background in topic.
Grade: A
How to get an A:
-Get the answer key for HW problems so you can check your work while you do it.
-Actually do the HW
-Get the Serway book he talks about (it's on reserved in the library) and scan (I took phone pictures) the problems at the back of each chapter corresponding to the one he's testing you on. Do all the level 2 problems.
tldr: Do HW problems and level 2 serway problems because he uses the exact same questions (just different numbers) on the midterms and final.
