I took Spanish 44 with Cortinez. I would say the same as everyone else-- it's clear that she's very passionate about the material. She's helpful and very approachable. Lectures are never dull. Don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't quite get something. She'll gladly explain things to you.
I took this class as a GE and would recommend it. She tell you in the beginning that she selects the best selections to read. Slides are not uploaded. Coming to lecture counts as participation and you'll want to come to class. Take good notes and you'll do well!
**Actual Course: Spanish 44**
She is an extremely nice and pretty funny professor. You will definitely get a laugh in her class.
She lectures very well. No powerpoint slides so you have to write everything you hear from you which is always important.
Tests: They actually test your knowledge on the subject, not just pure regurgitation.
Final: 5 Parts. Cumulative.
Part 1: 10 Pair of words. Identify and connect 4 of them.
Part2 : 10 important key terms. Briefly define them.
Part 3: 4 Shorts Answers to choose from. Pick 2 to write about.
Part 4: Two images to choose from and connect them with the 3 given authors. Choose 1 to write about.
Part 5. A 3 part essay but choose 1 topic to write the essay on.
I'll admit, I was over the test by finishing Part 2 because it was so much writing but by the time I was done I felt extremely accomplished.
Readings aren't that bad. Some aren't interesting but they are manageable during the week. The majority of the test is based on the readings and a minor part has to do with the historical background Cortinez would lecture about in class.
