Spring 2025 - Would definitely recommend taking! Professor Espino is passionate about the topic and knows quite a lot about it. The class focuses on a testimonio that you do with a care worker. It's an hour long interview that you then transcribe and summarize. You then later write an analysis paper of the testimonio using what you learned in the class. The final is four questions on the book that you read for class (an interesting, good read). Overall, an easy class and you'll learn a lot about how our society functions because of the care work done by undocumented women of color.

Winter 2018 - Virginia is funny, engaging and helpful. There is no need to buy any textbooks since the readings are online. Midterm and final are easy. However, she sometimes talks fast and moves to the next slide really quickly (if you ask her politely she will go back to the slide).

Fall 2018 - Espino means well, you can tell she is a sincere professor who cares about the subject and about engaging students. The only problem is her lectures are very slide heavy and I hate to say it, but boring. You can tell the class is falling asleep. The readings were interesting and I got a good grade, but you have to juggle weekly responses, participation grades, a paper, final, and midterm. You cant skip her lectures, so take the class if you want to learn about Chicana scholars or how the practice of historiography works. In these two areas I did learn alot, but it was a struggle to stay engaged during classes.
