Do not take this class if you are a music major wanting to genuinely learn about music unless you're ready to be bored out of your mind. The class talks very little about music and media, but more so music and its historical context. I swear we talked about the phonograph for two weeks. There are only 2 assignments in class and they are ridiculously unrelated to the course. I am very against the use of AI and we are required to write an entire essay using AI and analyze it, that would be great if it was a course on AI... but a music course? Just why. He is unclear in his guidance on the midterm and final and I feel like I have learned nothing beneficial this entire quarter. There are required readings each week for the discussion and they take hours to read. Genuinely like 20-50 textbook pages. If you're wanting a class where you can just skip the lecture and go to the discussion this is it, but it's an absolute waste of time, take something more interesting. I came into this class looking for a class about music IN media, this is nothing like that, I DO NOT recommend this class at all.
