Professor Marner is one of the rare examples of a professor that cares about his students' learning and he is clearly very passionate about the subject. For him to come back to UCLA at his age and teach with a fervor that can rarely be found in many of his younger colleagues speaks volumes about his dedication. He lectures very clearly and always takes the time to answer every question in depth. He has a natural knack for knowing when the class is uncertain about a topic and will take the time to go through it again or in more detail. He is funny and likes to develop genuine connections with the people in his class, especially those that sit in the front row. Homeworks are optional, exams are exceedingly reasonable in difficulty and length. He does give quizzes in discussion, but they're in the first 15-20 minutes so you can leave after. If you are taking MAE 105A and want a great chance at an A while also having an entertaining lecture, Marner is your guy.

This professor gives the best kind of difficult class. It's engaging, challenging and memorable. I'm sad he's not teaching additional classes in the thermodynamics series.

Marner is a genuinely nice guy who willingly comes back to teach at UCLA. He cares about students and does call on people during class using note cards which he makes everyone fill out on the first day. He also does riff on the people who sit in the front row a lot so be prepared if that's your usual spot. The lecture notes he posts online before lecture are really helpful to print and fill out during class and have all the material you need to know in an easily digestible format. The midterms and quizzes are straightforward and the final was suspiciously easy. Try not to fall asleep or show up late to class since he will most definitely call you out for it. All in all, a very fun and engaging class with an amazing professor!

Marner is overall a pretty good professor. He's very thorough, and provides lecture notes that you can print and fill in during class. He's also an incredibly nice guy, and likes to have fun in his lectures. The only thing is, he's definitely getting a bit old. He tends to forget things and leave out parts of whatever word/equation he's writing on the board, but still its pretty easy to figure out what he means. His class is very straightforward, and I'd definitely recommend taking it with him.

Professor Marner is a kind-hearted man and a great professor. He posts lecture notes before class which you can use to fill in during class. He likes to call on people in class but is engaging and does so because he wants you to learn. You can tell he loves teaching and everyone in the class appreciated him. Do all the homework even though they aren't graded they will help on the quizzes and are the best way to practice for the midterm and final.

Fantastic professor who is not only an outstanding lecturer, but he also gives worthwhile life lessons. As noted by previous reviewers, he prints out lecture outlines to spare us from tedious handwriting, which is a neat touch. I would definitely recommend him.
