Just here to reinforce good reviews of Conley. Really helpful especially in office hours.
Conley's teaching style is very organized, and he makes it easy to connect concepts. He is also very willing to help, often having review sessions from 6pm-11pm.
I had Conley for LS 30 A & B and he was pretty good. I felt the overall concepts taught in this class were easier than other math courses taught at UCLA. His midterms were definitely easy and the first midterm probably involved more writing than math, like knowing definitions and explaining a concept covered in class. I really liked the fact that he held super long review sessions before each test. But it was kinda unfair for students who weren't able to make it b/c I felt as we were approaching a midterm, he'd always rush. So at the review session he'd either cover a concept we didn't mention in class OR clarify something we went over really quick in class since it was gonna be on the test. But I felt it was unfair for anyone who didn't get this extra help if they didn't have enough time to make it to his review sessions. My only real complaint would be about the final though. I got A's on both midterms b/c they were literally just like his practice exams. But those trick you b/c the final was formatted to challenge you more. Which I get b/c this is still a college course but I didn't feel prepared for that extra challenge given the fact that the midterms were so easy and EXACTLY like the practice exams. Anyways he seems really interested in helping students and I don't think I've met another teacher who holds 6+ hour review sessions. He never seems to get tired. Anyways yeah I guess I would take it with him again
Conley is a god.
Taking this math series instead of the normal one was probably the best decision I've made so far at UCLA. I seriously loved this class(30B was even better) and Professor Conley was great. The coding isn't terrible, just go to office hours if you need help, and the tests were easy. My biggest piece of advice for this class is to go to the review sessions he puts on before every test. Be warned: they are SUPER long, but so worth it. He lays everything out at the review session and basically tells you the stuff that's on the test. Professor Conley does go a little fast in lecture but he really does try to explain things throughly and doesn't go over the stuff you don't need. Seriously though, take this math series it's shorter, you don't learn dumb math you will never use as an LS type major and getting familiar with coding is really good for future labs and stuff.
Although there are many positive reviews, I did not like this class. He is a great lecturer and holds review sessions before each midterm and final. However, his exams are extremely tough. I did not perform well in any of his exams even though I studied hard for them.
Conley is such a good professor! Math is not my best subject and I already had a negative attitude going in to this class, but Professor Conley made the subject much more interesting. He is a very good teacher who takes lots of time to clarify topics, and he even goes out of his way to help students out by holding long review sessions during his own free time. Although he is very good at teaching complicated topics, his tests are still pretty difficult. As long as you pay attention in class, go to all the review sessions, and complete ALL of his exam study guides, you do relatively well in the class.
Conley is amazing, this class s very insightful and doable, and you will definitely walk out with a good grade if you put in the reasonable amount of effort they ask for. Conley also was so accommodating and helpful given the remote learning, and he is also just a really nice person. Definitely recommend the class!
Professor Conley is THE BEST professor ever! He is very helpful and provides many sources for his students to get help. It does not surprise me that he has won teacher of the year many times! Every lecture begins with a brief review of the last lecture and always asks the students if they understand it. He holds review sessions for midterms and final that last from 3 - 5 hours, which would conceivably go on for longer if students had questions. Besides his amazing teaching abilities, Conley actually makes calculus fun! He would use visual representations to show what was going on and explained everything thoroughly. I highly recommend this class!! With that being said, his tests are pretty tough. Make sure to do all study guides! I would recommend watching Youtube videos for help, especially once you get to related rates.
Professor Conley is AWESOME. He's probably the best math professor that I've ever had. He really cares about his students and will devote as much time as needed to help his students understand the material. He once stayed after office hours until like 6:30pm with me to make sure I understood a difficult topic. His lectures are super thorough and very easy to follow. Even though many in the class have done calculus before, Conley starts from the beginning to make sure that everyone has a solid foundation. Having said that though, his tests were pretty hard- especially his final.
