I was very fortunate to have Will Conley as my professor for 31A. He was very clear in his explanations, and always made sure that you understood completely. The only bad thing I would say is that having taken the course equivalent in high school, his class seemed to go by very slowly and his explanations became very time-consuming. As a matter of fact, we actually didn't cover a few topics in integration that are necessary for 31B. Overall a very good professor.
Conley was an excellent professor. He was patient and explained things really slowly his workload is very low and instead of turning in homework you take quizzes each week. The final and midterm exams are a lot harder than the homework so you can't blow it off. Overall great class and I'm excited to take 31B with him.
This professor always makes sure everything is taught from the beginning and makes sure that important concepts are made very clear. His tests are straightforward if you follow along with his lectures and/or with the book. The lab section is coding, but the coding labs are not too hard and there are no tests or quizzes on the coding. He is a great professor and makes tests that dont really require a curve.
Conley is a great professor that makes the material he teaches absolutely clear. Tests weigh a lot, but are very straight forward. As long as you pay attention in lecture, you should be fine. :)
Professor Conley is a great professor. His tests and lectures are clear and straightforward. The material in this class is more conceptual than formulaic. Before the midterm and final, he hosted a review session that lasted 5 hours in which he basically answered questions and retaught the material. The labs in this class can be pretty confusing since they involve coding, but if you work with your classmates and TA, you'll be fine. Also, coding from the labs is not tested.
As an entering freshman struggling already in Math previously in high school, I was able to enroll into Professor Conley's Fall Quarter Math 31A class. Despite not checking bruinwalk beforehand, it was absolutely a great decision. My high school experience wasn't great and so it made me lose a lot of confidence in my ability in solving a math problem throughout the years. However, entering Professor Conley's totally changed my perspective of math. He is genuinely a great guy who truly wants people to learn and actually understand the concept he teaches. Although he may go a little slow during his lectures and such, I honestly didn't mind because it helped me to understand the concept even more, thus increasing my confidence. Furthermore, he is definitely for his students. He is willing to go beyond the allotted time (during office hours and midterms/final reviews) for students who are struggling with a particular topic. Although I did get a C, I blame it on myself for not studying hard enough and has nothing to do with Conley's teaching AT ALL.
Conley is awesome! He made math (a class I usually hate) into my favorite class! He is super nice and writes EVERYTHING down, which makes note taking really easy! He talks a lot, and repeats himself a lot, but thats honestly ok because then you understand it. The programming is a pain but the TAs help you out with it (Agraj rocks!). Definitely the teacher to take this class with.
Conley is great teacher. The workload is what it should be. The tests aren't hard but they do require you to know the material. In the future when taking math I'll always be looking to take a class with him.
By all means, take this class with Conley! He is extremely straightforward and makes every single point very clear. In addition to that, he genuinely cares about his students -- before each exam, he holds a review session where he covers every single topic we learned, often spending 4+ hours talking us through every detail we need to know.
The workload is light (one assignment per week) and the textbook is provided online. The only complaint I have about this class is that the computer labs were very difficult and tedious. However, the TAs and UAs are very helpful and walk everyone through each step of the problem.
Overall, this is a great class and I would highly recommend taking it with Conley. I didn't study that much for the exams and never really stressed about my grade. Good luck!
Conley is probably the best professor you can have for any math class. His lectures are extremely thorough (they can be a little too slow and boring sometimes if you know the material). The workload is really light- he gives out problems from the book every lecture for practice, but you don't have to turn those in for grading. He gives out quizzes every week in the discussion section (which are quite easy). His midterms and final are more challenging than the homework and quizzes, but they are extremely manageable. He posts sample exams before each midterm and final, which are very helpful for practice. I only went to office hours once throughout the quarter, and he was very helpful. Overall, Conley is a great professor- take him whenever you can.
