This professor is amazing. His lectures are clear and he makes the concepts seem easy.
I took AP Calculus B/C before and I got a 3 in the class so I had to take Math 3A and I don't regret it at all.
Concepts that I've never understood became completely clarified after he taught me for a quarter. He even gave us a 4 hour review session once (extended it for 2 hours just to answer EVERYONE's questions). This man is the best math teacher and he cares about his student's learning.
Take him. You will not regret it AT ALL.
Prof. Conley was the best teacher I had among the three classes during first quarter. His explanations are extremely easy to follow and his weekly quizzes are a piece of cake as long as you can do the homework. The lectures get boring though since its all review of the first half of AB Calculus, which is why I started ditching lectures halfway through the quarter. His grading scheme consists of two midterms, a final, and the weekly quizzes. Midterms were a joke but the final was alright. The only bad thing about this class is that its so easy that making a mistake on a midterm or a final could easily set you way behind others in terms of the overall curve. Otherwise, I highly recommend taking this professor!
Oh my goodness. Best. Professor. EVER.
I was really scared to take calculus since I had only taken a semester of it in high school. But Professor Conley was honestly the best professor/teacher I've EVER had, and he made my Math 3A experience one that was nothing but positive.
I was scared of having an 8am class, but this was so worth it. So, so, so worth it. First of all, Conley is an AMAZING lecturer. His notes are so clear and so thorough, and if you miss a lecture for any reason, he BruinCasts the lecture, which basically means he puts up a video of the lecture that is essentially the same as being in class.
He gives a fair amount of homework every lecture, and if you do it, you're in GREAT shape. If you do the homework the day of every lecture, and then go to his office hours that same day, you will do very well. I went into almost every single office hours, and let me tell you, it makes a difference. If you email Conley to set up a 1-on-1 office hours appointment, no matter how busy he is, he ALWAYS makes time to see you.
Also, even though I understood everything and worked really hard, I didn't do well on the first midterm. However, I talked to Conley, and he continued to support me, see me in his regular office hours and one-on-one office hours, and with the alternate grading scheme, since I rocked the second midterm, I ended up doing very well. The two grading schemes are as follows (your final grade is based off of whichever gives you the higher grade):
Grading Scheme 1:
10% Quizzes
25% Midterm 1
25% Midterm 2
40% Final
(Alternate) Grading Scheme 2:
10% Quizzes
40% Highest Midterm Score
50% Final
The quizzes are given once a week in discussion section, and they are usually just one or two simple questions off of/similar to the homework, just to make sure you're on track. Nothing to stress about, no tricks, 10 points each, and he even drops your lowest one!
Midterm 1 was pretty easy even though I didn't do well, and though Midterm 2 was harder, I did very well because Conley really prepares you if you take advantage of all of the help he offers. The final was also long and pretty challenging, but fair. You will do well if you prepare, I promise! Even if calc isn't your thing- it's definitely not mine and I'm pretty sure I got my A!
Conley is such a nice guy, and he cares SO MUCH. He really does. These are probably the best reviews you have ever read on BruinWalk, and it's no mistake. I feel bad for my friends that took Murfet (or anyone else) this quarter, because they generally had bad experiences and they really missed out.
If this hasn't convinced you you have a problem yo. Just believe me when I say TAKE MATH 3A OR ANY OTHER CLASS WITH WILL CONLEY!!!!!
Wow. Professor Conley was the best teacher I ever had to date at UCLA. He spoke through his lectures with complete thought and always was prepared to teach each topic. He taught each particular section with clarity. He is so patient always explaining each step to all his students who are unclear about anything. He cares so much about his students by extending his office hours and having his review sessions for midterms and finals to unlimited amounts of time. He genuinely cares for students to understand the material. Overall, I would take his class in a heartbeat. He is such an authentic professor that loves his job, which is so rare to see nowadays.
Prof. Conley is seriously the best. I was one of the few students who had never taken calculus in high school and felt really overwhelmed surrounded by all these kids who got 4 on the AP Calc test and couldn't pass out of 3A. He is the best teacher though and such a good lecturer and actually really does care about his students. :) Hands down best math prof. and really bummed he's not teaching 3b next quarter.
Words can't describe how awesome of a teacher AND person he is. He's so down to earth, always happy to teach, and ALL HE WANTS TO DO IS HELP YOU. He cares so much, he makes so much sense, and he is super straight forward. He teaches the information in such an understandable way and I actually look forward to going to his class. I seriously wish he would teach 3B next quarter and every other math class, too. I'm going to miss this class and Conley at the end of the quarter. Bottom line: if you have the option, put Conley's class on your schedule!!
HE IS THE BEST TEACHER!
He has a great teaching style and all his quizzes and exams are fair.
Conley explains EVERYTHING. His lectures are thorough and he writes down every detail you need for your notes.
There isn't too much homework and he truley cares about his students!
TAKE HIS CLASS, EVEN IF YOU DON'T NEED MATH FOR YOUR MAJOR
Let me start off by saying I entirely adore his teaching style, his approach to the subject material and his overall swag. Take me serious now, I have never in my life taken high school calculus, and I now consider myself fully mastering the material. He cares so much, its ridiculous. He is what a teacher should be. Even though, he knows, almost every student has taken some form of calculus, he teaches the material as if you are just learning it. I wish he was teaching math 3b, matter of fact, can he head the math department? Look, all jokes aside, he is an amazing instructor, he is caring and his office hours are flexible. Take him or face the wrath of terrible math teachers. Your Welcome. Watch This....bye
