Took comm 100 theory with him this fall quarter and got a B. Initially I was pretty pissed cuz I hated this class with a passion, but honestly looking back I missed tons of classes, never did the readings, did the paper the night before it was due, and barely studied for the midterm and final and still walked away with about an 85% in the class. the lectures are boring and stupid as hell but as long as you can suck it up to go to class and simply do the readings you should be able to get an A.

Kelly's lecture are okay. Not the most interesting nor boring. The reader is pretty easy to read, not too long, and interesting enough. His exams are multiple choice but he tends to trick you with the answers so know the readings. He slightly off-putting in person, which makes it hard to ask for help on the essay. The essay is the usual five pager, with the prompt more or less spelling out the essay for you.

I took Professor Kelly's Comm 122 class. The class material was interesting but the lectures did get boring at times. It is important to go to all the lectures and take very detailed notes if you don't plan on reading the course reader (which is 500 pages long!) You have to know the material veryyy well for the exams. Both the midterm and the final are 30 question multiple choice tests that are tricky and confusing. There is also a paper that is 40 percent of your grade, but he never really talks about it in class. You should take this class if you plan on working hard for a good grade. If you're going to slack off and either not go to lecture or not do the reading, then I would suggest to take another class!!!

I am personally a huge fan of Kelly (I refer to him as BK for Bill Kelly) but it's more as a weird infatuation with his sweaters and how he sounds a little like Christopher Walken. Class wise, here's the rundown: Structure: The class is consisted of two 30 question multiple choice tests that are 30% of your grade each and one 5-page MAXIMUM paper that's worth 40%. I feel like the tests are fair and they take a good mix from lectures and readings. Content: Really interesting class that goes into the stereotypes and conflicts dealing with individual cultures and sub-cultures as well as class, race and gender within said cultures. BK puts most of the readings online so you don't really have to buy the reader. Difficulty: Of course, this is why everyone comes on this website. I have taken two of his classes and gotten a B+ both times. I don't do all of the readings and I missed a fair amount of lecture as well. Had I done everything, I feel like I would have gotten an A- at least. I'm not a very good multiple choice test taker as well so if that's a forte of yours, BK is your guy.
