Spring 2023 - This is a tough course. I chose it as a Writing II class because it was the only one open. Bodiford's policy equates an 89.5% and upwards in the course to an "A", which led me to believe this course would be a walk in the park. It wasn't. His lectures are extremely disorganized and confusing. He chooses to read from a pile of jumbled papers instead of using a PowerPoint presentation. This method made it very hard to pay attention in lecture. The course material is incredibly dense and includes an array of technical terms and roadmaps that can't be conquered with rote memorization. Bodiford does provide a study guide for the midterm and final, which correlates with test material; just be prepared to know how terms and big ideas connect. There was a silver lining – from studying intensely for the final, I ended up absorbing a lot of information about Buddhism. It truly is an interesting course that is applicable to daily life – I'm thinking about the karma I might get for writing this review right now. If you are really interested in the subject and are willing to put the work in, then take this course. The Writing II aspect of this course was really easy. I got above 95% on every writing assignment, and my TA was incredibly helpful. She meets with students for personalized feedback on assignments so that no one receives a poor grade. This is a large grade booster. Overall, be very careful if taking this course for Writing II/GE credit – if you do, get ready for some long nights at Powell.

Spring 2018 - This class is super interesting if you're into Buddhism (well obviously). Professor is very experienced and organized, and he always stop to ask if there are any questions. He is also the fastest grader I've ever seen in my 4 years at UCLA. The essay is not too difficult, but I would recommend going to the library and checking out the books early. The midterm and final are not difficult if you use the syllabus as your study guide. However, I would not say it's an easy A class if you don't pay attention in class. For the midterm, I remember 15 got A, 10 got B and 10 got C, and 1 or 2 failed.
